New/old Sterling i just bought

Here is the 94' Sterling i just bought from another site to add to the stable.
I believe it's honeyburst.Whats your take on string mutes?

That is an absolute beauty!!!

My take on the mutes? Well, I wish my StingRay had them. I think they make any EBMM look more aggressive, complex, and mechanical. In a cool way, of course. Kinda like a Floyd Rose on a Strat, or a Kahler on a Les Paul, or even a Kahler bass tremolo on a Charvel. I like bells and whistles sometimes.

Bridge mutes??? Instead of the piece of foam I sometimes squeeze under my strings?? Is this an after market add on? Can you swith them on and off or are they always muting the strings???

That bridge was used before the current bridge that MM uses. It has thumb screws that adjust the mutes. You can increase/decrease tension...turn them off completely. I've heard a couple reasons they stopped making them. One is that most people don't use mutes, so why the extra expense. The other is that a couple people cut their fingers and they didn't want any lawsuits.

It looks, however, like they are putting that bridge on the new "Vintage" Stingray collection.

If i'm not mistaken you will need to find a pre late 90's model Sterling to
get one with the recessed neck plate, as they are all surface mounted now.
