I remember seeing a figured fretless SR4 with a super-figured bird's eye maple neck like that in the same finish in a local store back in the mid 90's. I wish I could have bought it, but I didn't have the money (I was a student at the time).

Nice catch. It looks like a fantastic bass!

That's a really cool bass - almost looks like cherryburst in that lighting. I never knew Sterlings were made with the large bridge and mutes.

Late 80s/early 90s EBMM basses sure are stunning looking instruments.

I think it was called sunburst back then, now honeyburst, but does look to be cherryburst in that photo. The downsized bridges came a few years later after the string mutes were discountinued.

I received this PM from Gav.

On your Bass the finish is called "Sunburst". You will actually find "SUNBST" printed in the neck pocket. The name was changed to "Honeyburst" at the 2002 Summer NAMM show. It's the same finish but called different names depending on when the Bass was made

This "Sunburst" is not to be confused with the normal 3 tone sunburst found on other manufacturers instruments (eg Fender). Ernie Ball names their similar 3 tone sunburst as "Vintage Sunburst".

Thanks to Gav and the great staff at EBMM and you Knuckleheads. I love learning this stuff!
