Hi. I stopped by the same fromer Ernie Ball dealer where I got the blue sparkle Sterling (that Glenn has now), and they has this brand new red Stingray from 2001. Needless to say, I got a smoking deal. Does this look like Candy Apple Red? There is a light amount of sparkle in it.

Gah - can't see the pics here as pic linking is blocked - but the bass in my sig is Candy Apple Red - I've got some closeups of the finish - it is a bit sparkly, but if your bass is Radiance Red, it will be waaaay sparklier.

Will have a proper look later :D

Get out yer magic decoder ring..

There is (should Be) a sticker with the build code in the pickup cavity.
I think it translates roughly like this:
For example: 110-21-10-01
110: SR4 3EQ (righty, single H)
21: Candy Red
10: Maple neck (non-matching headstock)
01: Black pickguard

This theory seems "testable" using the online build-o-matic, hit the "check it out" button, then make the pic bigger. The URL in your browser will reveal the magic code.
The build numbers also show up when checking dealer inventories online with the "find it" utility.
An exception would be in the event that you are researching an instrument with a discontinued color, such as Radiance Red(seemingly..?). In that case, the catalog page with color chart will list the color with its corresponding code #. At least the recent catalogs seem to follow that convention.
Though not particulary browser-accurate this is also online: http://www.ernieball.com/mmonline/color_chart/color_chart.html
Our buddy Rod Trussbroken's site has some catalogs online as well as smallequestrian's color-ID sticky thread.
For what it's worth I have a "170 43 20 05" that looks like your color. (43=Radiance Red)

Wheee...Oh what fun!

ps.. I too snagged a wicked-minty NOS 2001 "110 70 21 02" late last year...
