Wow, I had no idea this forum ever existed.

I bought my axis used about 6 years ago. It seems that the person before me replaced the bridge pickup and it's not very good. In the past I tried to replace it with a dimarzio evolution pickup (I've got them in my GEM and love em). Anyways, I found out that it wouldn't fit into the hole.

So, is it possible to buy the original pickups. I've looked at the Dimarzio website and on the musicman website and haven't had much luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Geno,

Welcome aboard!!

My understanding is that you cannot buy a replacement Axis pickup from EB.

The Dimarzio "Tone Zone" is the closest thing to it. However the Super Distortion is also an excellent selection for that in keeping with "high output" pickups similar to the Axis factory PUP:)

uhhh, that's not good. I've also emailed both dimarzio and musicman so hopeully they can help me out.

has anyone here tried the "tone zone" in their axis. I wonder if they'll come in different colors too. the one he put in there is just black:eek: I know it's a dimarzio pickup that's in there but I'm not sure which one.

Geno,

I have the Tone Zone (among many others), and NOT one of my favorites though. Yeah, it's loud and punchy, but to ME it lacks musical characteristics and a personality.

Super Distortion and Norton, to me, are great punchy musical pickups (for a high and medium output), and either would compliment the Axis factory pickup very well.:)

hmmm....thanks. Although, now I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

just for everyone's info. I wrote Dimarzio yesterday (on a sunday). And I had a response back from them today. That's some pretty good customer service.

They said that they could not sell the same pickups that come in the EB but that the tone zone was the closest they have for the bridge pickup.

I actually bought a set of EVH/Axis pickups a few weeks ago for a project, so they're definitely out there. And there was a set on eBay a week or two ago.

Maybe not a bad idea to pickup a Tone Zone for now and then get an original when you can pick one up :)

I LOVE the Axis/EVH pickups but hated the Tone Zone. And I gave it a fair chance. It isn't even close IMO.

It's worth doing the eBay thing and finding some original pickups. You won't be sorry. I can't understand at all why anyone would want to change out these pickups. They are probably my all time favorite stock pickups.

I don't know why he changed it either. I was so happy that I found my dream guitar on ebay that I must have over looked the fact that the pickup was different.

oh well, I'll replace it someday. The wost part about the pickup he put in was that it doesn't even line up right with the strings. I believe the axis has f-spaced pickups, correct? I think just replacing it without the correctly spaced pickup would make a huge difference.

I think the bridge IS f-spaced but the neck is not.

right...This may be stupid but I thought that f-spacing only referred to the bridge pickup. I thought that the neck pickup was usually the same.

ok, if I'm wrong then I'm wrong here guys. please don't burn me at the stake if that was a stupid assumption.
