Why would you replace them?

Fyi, there's nothing magical about pots. The only things that will affect your tone are the resistance and the taper.

These are precision pots, stainless steel case and shaft, gold plated terminals, special hot-molded carbon element, definitely super nice. Overkill for a guitar, but in an amp they would be very nice indeed. The PCE pots made for guitar with the 3/8 inch shaft are $24 per piece. PCE is made in Canada.

PS Beej, I was kind of joking here, I was looking at the pots that are used in Komet amps and found that PCE made audio taper pots for guitar too. I wonder what guitarist specifies them for his guit? They didn't make them just to stock on shelves... If you ever get a chance to look at Komet amps take a look at the pot they're using to adjust bias in some models. Holy cow! Looks like the delay time multiplier adjustment on an older Tektronix o'scope. :) It's like a vernier knob or similar. Who the world would want to be that precise with a bias adjustment on a tube amp?

And I have to disagree very slightly; these are special pots, extremely high qualityand ruggedly durable, and might improve the signal path of a guitar. One could speculate what the improvement would be. But without actually installing these pots and doing some testing, who can say 100% sure there would be no improvement?

Why would I change mine out? Because I want to. Actually I don't use the tone knob much at all.... And the volume very little. Maybe I'll just try one in the vol position. I'm not sure the shaft is long enough to mount a knob on though.
