So dude youve had it for a week now, how about a review? I cant get enough of my 3 Silo Specials, they are awesome. Cant wait for no 4 in a few months!

Okay mate, my little review of the Silo Spec here..

Color - GREAT finish from EBMM, makes you hold onto it longer, and thus play even longer!(Sometimes its great playing the BD, while admiring the AutRed, or vice versa..:D)

Body - Compact, comfy, definitely for someone looking for a small package with everything under one roof! (Being a small guitar like an AL, I find the slightly longer lower horn of the Spec provides higher support for playing while sitting, since I am about 1.8m tall..)

Neck - No birdseye maple (since not a sig model), but, what da heck? Smooth and easy to play, just like any other Balls I have!

Tone - The Spec is really armed with an innovative & useful pup config, you get close to a SSS type of config (with split HB + center SC in position 4), really good for rhythm and lead works. The very first moment when I plug them in, I was already captured by the stellar clean tone! (Diff to that of the AL - the AL gives you a rounded treble sound, while the dimarzios on the Spec have a balanced but crystal clean voicing, plus they are higher output, aint they?) Gonna plug them into the Mesa someday to rock the hell out..:D

Options for future upgrades - Unlimited - we have the SSS assembly available, to me, its the most versatile guitar around ;)

Really like the Silo Special, Ripper. Congrats. The single, single, hum seems to be the go to configuration for the Special. It's nice to see one with 3 singles.

So Ripper, what do you think of your Y2D these days? I sold mine after playing Silo Specials and AL's, they suited me so well, the Y2D just didnt do it for me at all. I would play a silo special for a bit then pick up the Y2D and it would feel really odd to me. How are you finding it now you have a variety of axes?

About the Y2D...

The Y2D is my first EBMM guitar. Its the first guitar I brought back from US during my very first 1-month long stay there, so it got sentimental value. 2 reasons why I bought the Y2D - Steve Morse, and the unique purple sunset color which to me, is one of the best color out there! I love the sound coming out from the Y2D - high output pickups with controllable 250k pot that pumps out heavy rock tones as well as sweet rhythm voicing (position 2). These are strengths of the Y2D that the AL and the Specs will not be able to achieve. They should not be compared in the 1st place as they are all very different guitar for different musical style.

Some reflection here though:

1. All the Balls I got have very nice playing necks (of cos!).

2. The Y2D and Specs have a more balanced weight distribution when I play seated. The AL seems to have a heavier neck and a lighter body there.

3. The Specs and AL sure are comfortable axe to play with, with their body contours, the Y2D on the other hand takes some getting used to. Its all bout positioning, as mentioned by BP when answering to Chris Glancy for having a similar problem playin it. I've learnt to position myself too, so I have no problem playin the Y2D for a straight 2 hours.

BP said the 20th Silo are the original BFR. IMO, the Y2D is really the one. Plus, it dont comes with a BFR price tag. The reason why I got into the Specs lately, is bcos I want to get a guitar which is a non-signature, understated instrument that can do the job as well. Glad to have scored 2 Sparkles in a row! :)
