I just received my new SM-Y2D this evening in Purple Sunset (standard top) with Floyd Rose bridge. I'm almost certain this guitar shipped with a standard .009 set of Slinkys as I've been playing .010s for a year and these feel like butter. I just wish to confirm because the factory setup is perfect and I wish to keep it intact. I purchased the guitar from Musician's Friend, so I'm sure the guitar was in storage since Nov. '05 (according to the product label) and not tampered with.

So far, in one hour of playing time, I'm very pleased. This guitar offers excellent cleans with much snap and a great sustaining rock tone. The neck is great, and overall this instrument is balanced and comfortable. The tone also seems to be very even, not favoring highs, lows, etc. The Axis seems to offer more mids, and the JP6's more highs (a least to my ears). The electronics and hardware are all top notch and the Floyd Rose works perfectly.

I look forward to learning and then working with this new guitar. If someone can confirm the string gauge, that would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

I thought the Y2D shipped with a custom set of strings.. the ones that Morse uses.
(The strings do not correspond to any pre-packaged set from EB.)

It definitely doesn't ship with Super Slinky's... I had to tweak my Y2D a bit after I switched it to .009's (re-level the Floyd and a slight turn of the truss rod).

It plays even better with .009's, IMHO! Try for yourself! :)

The "Morse set" of strings starts with a .010 but has a couple funky sizes. You are right that it's not a standard package string set. I would swear that my y2d had funky .009s, I think I even called Tommy about it, and he said Steve uses .009s on his Floyd guitars. Maybe the funkiness of middle gauges is why you needed to reset the Floyd?

Hmm. My Y2D sure felt like it had a .010 first string when it came from the factory. I say this because I couldn't bend that string as easily as I normally can when playing a .009

 :D

Thanks to El Jardinero for the solution, and to BP for the lottery tip. I just might try those numbers! If I win, I can buy all the EBMM guitars that I want!

Thanks for all of the help and quick replies! I'll probably have the guitar adjusted for a standard .010 set for ease of stocking strings. I'll try to post pics, but I'm not very good with computers and the files are always too large.

I do have a few questions:

1) I notice that the single coil sets at an angle (bass side higher). Just curious if others are setup this way.

2) Looking at the Floyd Rose from the strap button. The left side of the tremolo touches the guitar, but the right is set higher. Should the bridge set completely flush across the top?

3) Just curious what the "B" represents written inside the tremolo cavity.

Thanks for a great instrument. Plays and sounds great. I'll try to load pics.

I'll have to check the single coil when I get home, but I do believe this is standard. The Bridge humbucker also sits at a peculiar angle, which I think is also standard.

As for question #2, I noticed the same thing on my Y2D after I switched it to .009s (it may have been that way all along and I never looked until I changed the string gauge). I leveled the bridge with a few turns of an allen wrench on the right side.

No clue about the "B".

It appears that my bridge pickup is setup even. Only the single coil is angled.

My pics won't load because the are all over 100KB. I don't know how to reduce them. I have an eMAC with Preview and iPhoto software. The iPhoto has never worked properly for me. I don't know what I'm doing either. Any quick computer hints?
