i had a crazy idea to see if i could write and record a whole track using only my new Reflex "monster truck" bass. this is what i came up with. its a little wacky, but not bad considering that every single sound on this track came from a bass guitar. for the drums i thumped and slapped and scratched the strings then sliced those bits up in a daw and then programmed them like a drum machine. for the other instruments i plugged the Reflex into some synth pedals thru old tube amps etc. no extra samples, keyboards, or anything else were used anywhere in the track, it is 100% monster truck. hope you dig it. i had a blast putting it together, and learned a lot in the process. not sure how to embed the mp3 file so i guess youll have to click on the link. let me know if theres a way to build it into the post.

That was very

I totally zoned on that one. It was like first contact with an alien signal source. Great range and choice of tones and effects. Amazing that is all came from the one instrument -- keeping the effects and tech in mind of course. Very nicely done. :)

thanks antman. i was doing it just for fun, and to show what a beast the reflex is, but i also ended up learning a serious lesson. limiting your options / choices forces you to be creative and try things you never would have normally tried. the end result is something that sounds like nothing else in my catalog. hopefully in a good way haha.

Holy...That was great. After listening to that, I think you need a leather wallet that says, "Bad Monstertrucker." It's nice to listen to a "solo bass" recording that doesn't sound like someone is trying to make popcorn.

OK First off thank you. Secondly it is so trendy to become a top session cat and then sit back and do anything but create music when your not being paid. Craig you have a passion still and please dont let that flame die out.

The track actually morphed in such a cool way...the intro is dead on scary movie mystery score...you eased us into a very nice melody with some neat counter stuff going on and then the track at the end really grooved...the monster truck rolled...(the section with 1.01 till .30....there was a driving feel there

Thanks so much for that....

When do you need a gamechanger for Ben? I have a Big al and a 2H Sting Ray..Would you like to beta test it for us both in the studio and on the road?

Very cool! I love your use of space with the different parts. You really let the piece breath. Too many time I hear pieces now that have no question and answer flow, just lots of notes. Thanks again for sharing!

Wow. Wow indeed!

The story behind this song is impressive, sure, but the music alone is enough to listen to - I enjoyed this, even without thinking how it was done (but bear in mind, Craig's Reflex is a 4 stringer!).

Thumbs up and good luck with the Ben Folds Gig! I liked them when I first heard them ('95 I believe?).

That said, I hope I can have a first hand look at the Reflex soon .. guess I live on the wrong continent! :D

Wow, this is really great! I find most tracks where the author overdubbed a bunch of bass parts together to be one-dimentional, but you've truly transformed some of the bass parts into something different altogether.
