I'm not sure if any of you knew, but recently I got an Artist Endorsement deal with Sterling by Music Man. I've been playing an AX40-TBO for 4 years now and happen to get one of my photos chosen to be in the 2014 Sterling catalog. Along with that I was offered a minor endorsement deal, which translated to a really good discount on their products. So in the mail I got a handful of catalogs which have my picture on the back, a couple t-shirts, hat, and of course a new AX40.
I was all excited to get the guitar out and play it to see how it felt, but I already have an AX40 I've been using for the past 4 years so nothing new to report lol. EXCEPT - this new one has the DiMarzio Axis pickups factory installed, same as the Music Man Axis guitars. New feature they rolled out last year I believe. World of a difference. Of course I have a Peavey Wolfgang pickup in my blue one, but there is little bit of difference between the Peavey pup and the Axis. Little more clarity, little brighter with the Axis pickup. I've been A/B'ing both guitars for a couple hours, and swapped a few trems in both guitars - a Gotoh GE1996T and a Gotoh knockoff, along with the factory Sterling licensed Floyd. Bottom line, Axis pups win with these guitars.
Gotoh is now on the red one, knockoff Gotoh on the blue.
Ok, I'm done bragging!
