So I used to play alot in the 70's and 80's - Jazz basses (fretted and fretless) then I got into upright, then cello, then classical guitar. I sold all my gear for a song about 20 years ago (footprint still visible on the side of my head).
I've been Jonesing for a bass for a while and played a bunch (Lakland, MTD, Fender, EBMM, Warwick, and others). I thought I wanted a Bongo5 or an MTD Z5. I went to look at a Bongo today and came home with a beautiful new...

STINGRAY!

EBMM BFR Stingray 5 HH with natural wood, tortoise guard, and full rosewood neck and headstock.

This thing is beautiful, plays like a dream, and sound great (so far - I haven't really put it through it's paces yet but I'm working on it).

So this is my introduction to EBMM basses and this forum.

I'm playing this through an Ampeg BA 115 but I'm thinking about trading it for a 115T. If I had the $$, I'd go for a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0/12T - played one at the shop and was literally blown off the stool!

Way nicer than a bongo. Very nice choice. Don't ever let it go.

Man, when you decided to get back into it, you went BIG.

And a one-piece body, at that.

Beautiful bass, amigo. Welcome!

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone.

Very very nice, maybe thank your lucky star they didn't have a comparable Bongo? ;)
Huge congrats on the bass, the body figuring is just sick! Where did you find it?

Hmmm, that Bongo headstock in rosewood!
Poppa - is there a matching Bongo out there some where??
:D

Man, when you decided to get back into it, you went BIG.

It's my nature - when I do something, I go hook, line, and sinker.

I was looking at the stock at Chuck Levin's in DC. I asked to see one in Black Cherry Burst and when the salesman brought it out he said - I stumbled onto something that I didn't know we had, what do you think of this one?
And that was that.

What a beautiful bass....unbelievable!!

Check out some Markbass gear as well...I believe BP(Sterling Ball himself), and a large number of members love the sound of our EB basses through their rigs. It's like a match made in heaven!

Congrats!
