I am stoked! I ordered a black Stingray Friday and I am chomping at the bit. I have always shied away from the Musicman bass because I personally didn't care for it's appearance. I had never been around anyone that played one either, so I had never had the opportunity to play one. Last Thursday I was in a local music store and after playing a few Fender basses that weren't very satisfying, I picked up a Stingray. Wow! I never knew a bass could be that easy to play and sound so good. Then I picked up a SUB. Same results but I just couldn't get used to the rough finish and the flat black neck and head. I went to see my drummer on Friday, who works in another music store, and decided to order the bass. Anyway, I've enjoyed reading your posts and will try to participate in some of the discussions. The one thing I plan to do asap is replace the plain black pickguard with a black abalone. I really like that look.

Yes, it certainly appears that way as long as the Peoples Republic of Highland Village approves my request to alter the garage.

Not sure when, but within a couple of months anyway. Any good open blues and rock and roll jams around the Dallas area?

There are some very good jams, but I don't seem to have time to go to any so I'm not really up to date. Between my band and being Captain of a Drum and Bugle Corps, I don't have much time for anything else.

Jack, now that you're retired, perhaps it's time to join a band rather than whoring yourself at weekly jams? You can still be Mr Mom during the day, but be a rock star at night.

Oh man, being in a band is like being married except she's not cute. I LIKE slutting myself out. And if it sucks, or if someone has a bad case of head-up-ass, hey, it's one night.

But yeah, I have a friend up in Dallas, we played together for a few years and playing with him is like....going home to family. So I expect some steady stuff.....he's a writer, kind of a Lyle Lovett type of thing and I do loves me some walking bass lines, so we'll see.

I hear you Jack, it's really hard to find a compatible bunch of people for a band, and in some ways it's tougher than finding a partner, since there's 3, 4 or 5 of you that have to get along together.

That said, if you can find the right bunch of people, being in a band is a lot of fun.

I guess I'm lucky, we've got a cute one in our band. We jockey for space at the studio for the best place to watch her a$$ when we rehearse :)

The Black Beauty is now in my hot little hands. Can't wait to play it this evening. Thanks for all of your comments. I can now officially be a member of the club.

Simply gorgeous, Mobay45!

That just happens to be exactly what my 'Ray looks like too. :D

Extra good luck with her.

Mike

One day I'll post pix of my stuff.

Played it last night. I may never play my '79 P bass again (unless I happen to need to use the hipshot to drop to a D). Just got to hear it through my Kickback 15 though. Won't get to use my big rig until this Friday at the rehearsal since I leave it in the studio. The Ibanez GSR 200 is going up for sale asap. Definitely don't need it anymore. (I just bought if for fun anyway.)

Aussie Mark: If the a$$ is as good as the front, I totally understand your jockeying for position!
