Hey Guys,

I was on the verge of buying a stingray, and i have since found out that new ones are to be released, I figured you would be the best people to ask about this. So what is updated in this new version, is it going to be so much better? Also has anything been said about the release date?

I have tried searching the forum to no avail, so this is the last resort.

Any info at all would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Rich

There are two pickup stingrays on the way. They will not be better than the traditional one pickup stingray, just different.

Compensated nut- Improves inotation
Dual Pickup options- Either a Humbucker or Single coil pickup in the neck position. Also a 5-way toggle switch for the pickups.

IMHO, the compensated nut is not really necessary. You are not going to hear intonation improvment on a bass guitar in the amount that that nut can provide -- maybe on a guitar... Just my opinion.

Oh, and what a shame it is that they don't ask your advice when deciding what features to include in their new basses.

Thanks for all the replies.

So really, its just an extra pickup? Nothing too drastic? Will the humbucker be the same or a completely different pup?

I'm thinking of buying a desert gold, 4 string stingray with perloid pickguard, for $[EDITED]. You guys think it's a decent deal? Or you think i should wait for the new one.

So when will the new one be released?

The guy asked about a new stingray and improvments. I was merely making the point that I don't consider the compensated nut an "improvment." I don't consider it a detriment either, and I have a new two pickup stingray on the way to prove it. :) I stated that the comment was "in my opinion." I don't expent to be asked my opinion by EB about anything, but this is a public forum, and I am participating in a discussion. My comment was on point and yours was merely flame bait.

That sounds like a sweetheart deal! Either Ray is going to be great. Get one of each if you can :)

Welcome to the forum.

I would like to mention that it is against the rules of the forum to post street prices of new MM products here in the forum. I'm sure it would be appreciated it you would edit the above post accordingly.

I'm pretty sure since EBMM decided it was a big enough deal to add a compensated nut to all of their new instruments that they have a valid reason. I'm just glad that the fine folks at EBMM make the important decisions and not the posters on this board.

O sure, really sorry, i know how i ahte it when people break rules. It's just a funny rule that not many forums use so it didn't even cross my mind.

I sure will edit it, and i apologise again

Pete, it would seem you're in very good company in your opinion. Namely, the EBMM engineer who is responsible for the compensated nut.

From Bovinehost's Bongo info page:

4. The intonated nut should affect the intonation most at the first through fifth frets. One of the engineers who worked on the Bongo said, "I didn't figure that the nut would make that much difference to the average player. I originally designed it for guitar, where it makes a difference when playing chords. Since most bass players don't play a lot of chords, especially near the nut, it's probably not much of an issue."

Look, my point, not made very effectivly I guess, was that "I" would not base my stingray buying decision on the compensated nut. That is, I would not wait for the newer stingray over the older stingray, because the newer one has the compensated nut.

If it is a Stingray you want and that one is new I would hop on it. Will be awhile before the dual pups show up. You could be playing a wonderful bass right now.

IMHO

I don't think the absence of a compensated nut should keep him from buying the Ray, but your first coment read like you were second guessing EBMM for including the compensated nut in all it's new instruments. It just seemed like a silly thing to say, IMO.

Don't sweat it, you asked a good question.

One other thing is that the new stingray is new in the sense that it was designed later in time than the current one. It is not, however, new and improved in the sense that it is replacing the current model. The current single pickup model will remain in the lineup, I imagine, unchanged. It is, afterall, a classic.

Well perhaps you are a little too sensitive, IMO.

BTW - That sounds like a great deal on the 'Ray. If you buy it, I would really like to see a pic of it here. I've never seen a DG Stingray. Only Bongos and Sterlings so far. That price does include the case, doesn't it?
