Our 9 year old son as of late has been telling me that he wants to learn to play guitar. I have been hesitant at first because I thought he was still a little young and didn't want to buy something only to have him give up because of the practice involved and him getting frustrated at a young age. If I did get him something, I also wanted it to be in the Ernie Ball/Music Man family so when the Sub series was re-released this past year I decided that would be the route I would go. Last night I showed Zach the different Sub guitars made and asked him which one he liked best. He said he liked the white Silo the best. I kind of left it at that and figured maybe for his birthday in May we would get him one. Well, today I had to go to Denver to take Rochelle to a doctors appointment. On the way there, we stopped in at Guitar Center and they had 1 Sub Silo in stock in black. I played it for a little bit and was blown away. I seriously could not believe the price in the guitar. The guitars are worth a lot more than they are selling for. The quality is really good and the thing sounded great! Well, unfortunately, they didn't have any white ones in stock but they did offer to have one from their warehouse shipped to me so I made a deal and bought my son a new Sterling by Music Man Sub Silo in white. It should be shipped sometime today and arrive in the next week. Come Christmas, he is definitely going to be stoked! Once I get the guitar, I will post pictures of it before gift wrapping it and storing it away for Christmas. I will also post pictures on Christmas day as my son opens it and has a 9 year old Christmas day spaz attack!
I really am blown away by even the entry level stuff Music Man is putting out. It really is top notch!

Eventually, I will get for myself a JP Mystic Dream but that is at least a year away as I have to pay my truck off first.:D

The guitar will be here tomorrow and I am excited. Never been this excited over any entry level instrument before but these guitars are killer. Now my quandary is if I should play the guitar or not before wrapping it or wait for my kid to open it on Christmas day? With whatever I do, I will take pictures of it tomorrow and post them up.

Play it enough to just check it out. Do whatever tweeks you might think necessary so that it's setup well. Then put it away. I did exactly this for my own Christmas present to myself from my wife last year. Bought a used guitar. Received it. Played it a bit and set it up. Put it into the case and put it away so my wife could wrap it up.

The guitar showed up yesterday but I didn't get a chance to tinker around with it until just a little bit ago but I am impressed. Out of the box, this thing sounds great and plays great. Very comfortable guitar to play. I am stoked at the price range that Music Man and Sterling by Music Man targeted with this guitar because it enabled me to get it for my son who will now start learning how to play but because of the quality of this guitar it could definitely be sold for a lot more. The pros to having played this guitar are very many. Again, surprisingly good quality from the finish of the paint to the assembly of the guitar to the hardware. Also surprising is this thing is pretty versatile as far as different tones go. Very comfortable to play. Stays in tune and will definitely help motivate entry level players to play more. I believe even mid grade players as well. This is a guitar that someone can buy knowing nothing about guitars, upgrade to other higher end guitars as time goes by but still keep this one as a back up or a simple go to guitar or just go and have a jam session with an old sentimental friend that helped teach you how to play. I even dig that the truss rod wheel is included on these guitars.

The only negatives I can see are the guitar doesn't come with Ernie Ball strings but that is such a minimum thing and my understanding is, is that was needed to help hit the target price but considering guitar strings aren't that expensive, and will be the first thing changed out, who cares! On the guitar that we got, The low E string and the B string are slightly out of intonation and go sharp up around the 12th fret so I will have to do a minor adjustment to fix that but other than that, I have no complaints about the guitar. The neck is real straight and everything seems solid. Out of 5 stars on Guitar Center and Musicians Friend websites, I gave this guitar easily 5 starts!

Here are the pictures of it.

I really wish it was Christmas now because I'm not gonna lie, I have been wanting to play this thing like crazy myself. I'm hoping to get a JP Mystic Dream in the next year but that is still a while away but the little I have played this guitar, it only left me wanting to play more.

Thank you guys! I can't wait to buy my own EBMM guitar soon. It will be so much easier teaching Zach to play once I can sit down with him with my own guitar in my lap and his in his lap and then go over stuff with him. Right now we are having to trade the guitar off back and forth. It's working but it is just taking longer to show him stuff.
