New Sub1 guitar. Please help

I just received a new Sub1(X15676) guitar from musicians friend. I have to say I'm pretty disappointed. The low E, A, D, and G strings buzz pretty much all the way up the neck. Are there supposed to be any tools that come with the guitar. How do you raise the strings? Which way do you turn the truss rod to adjust the relief?

I don't want to come off the wrong way I was just hoping everything would be perfect like so many reviews I've read. I bought this guitar because my Ibanez RG1570 has the same issue and I've hated it every since I bought it. I wanted to find a guitar that I enjoy when I pick it up and not hate it.

Any input would be appreciated.

I think you might not receive your answer as this forum purpose isn't for solvin customer service problems. Your best bet is to contact Customer Service. Your guitar is under warranty and they are gonna help you out with the best possible way,

I'll try and contact customer service. I just changed strings and tried to adjust the relief. The sub is much more comfortable to play than my Ibanez RG. I just want to enjoy it when I pick it up and not have any regrets.

Why not just take it to a qualified tech and pay for a set up?? Every new gtr could use one generally.

yeah call customer service on monday, it probably just needs a good setup. then it will play like magic!

I think it may need more than a setup. I tried to raise the E and A strings and the screws are turning at an angle, now they look crooked. One of the screws on the E string is just turning and won't raise or lower. I'll see what customer service says on Monday. I've been so frustrated with my Ibanez that I thought this would be a godsend. I'm just extremely depressed. I don't even want to pick up a guitar now.

Now when you say a setup. What does that generally include. I don't think a trussrod adjustment will fix the buzzing issue and I would prefer not to have the action higher than most acoustic guitars.

I'm ready to send it back to Musicians Friend. I just don't understand why I can't find a guitar that I enjoy playing.

First off, welcome to the forum and I hope you'll get your SUB1 performing the way you want very soon.

A truss rod adjustment actually WILL correct MOST buzz problems. Raising the string saddles or bridge is more of a last resort.

When you want nice, low action you often must put up with some 'acoustical' buzz. As long as the buzz isn't audible through your amplifier, you're fine.

There are great 'how-to' write-ups for performing a setup in the FAQ at the main www.erieball.com site. I would suggest you set those saddles back to where they were and try a truss rod adjustment. No tools come with the guitar, but you can insert an allen wrench or small screwdriver into the spoke wheel of the truss rod to make your adjustment.

If you need assistance, call EBMM customer service. You'll be amazed at how much they really want to see you happy.

The worst thing you can do is adjust the bridge...the truss rod will fix 98% of set up issues

Thanks for all the help. I've been playing the guitar for a couple of hours now. Very easy to play would be an understatement.

I have a black non tremolo sub1. The picture on the Musicians Friend site showed it with a silver pickguard. The one I received has a black pickguard which is much sharper looking. I'll try and post pics when I get a chance.

I hope I didn't come off too whiny. It is nice to have this forum as a resource. One day the 20th anniversary Silhouette will be mine.
