Hi all,
at yesterday's TOTO gig in Duesseldorf I noticed, that the b2 and e1 pole pices of the sustainer pickup (neck position) in the black sparkle Luke were shifted towards the bridge. I've never seen that before and the red Luke still has the sustainer with the "normal" 6 in-line positioned pole pieces.
As a proof, I zoomed in as close as possible and took this photo: Bangers Galerie

Does anyone know some details about this?

From that pic it looks exactly the same as the sustainer pup he used before..i also went to the Düsseldorf gig but I was too far in the back to watch Luke's guitars in detail:eek:

@Luc: take a closer look at the b2 and e1 string... I attached a montage how the sustainer looked like at the black sparkle luke (bottom) im comparison to the "normal" sustainer, as mounted on the radiance red luke (top). Could someone please give Luke's guitar tech a call? :p

@Junior: Luke's been using a Fernandez Sustainer (some kind of custom model with 6 seperate pole pieces) since Vai drove him to that thing some years ago... have a glimpse at Luke's website's q&a section, where some twenty questions about "that non-emg neck pickup" were posted. ;)

I thought his sound was naturally sustain-ish. :( Well, there goes my dream... :D Thanks for the information!

Luke doesn't use it on all of his guitars, though, so keep your dream alive~! :)

I know I know... :p

I'm just glad this is a "stock" Luke, check out the the great feedback at the end!

Erm... no, that one ain't stock, this is *the* black sparkle which was, as far as I know, the first one equipped with a sustainer - check the neck pickup. And the feedback at the end comes from the sustainer. :D

Oops! My bad! I thought that 'the' Black sparkle had a natural headstock (like on the Amsterdam DVD, 'cause they're ain't no EMG there either)

Ooops, too. You're right with the natural headstock.
Hm... I'd suggest we'd take the Gypsy Train, visit Lucious and beat the **** out of him until he tells us everything about his sustainer equipped guitars (and, of course, signs my Luke). :D

Well, I don't know whether it's new, but there is definitely a sustainer in that guitar. You can clearly see the switch, and you can see Luke switching it off when going from the sustain part to the shreddy bit.

Cheers
