Hello, this is my first post on this forum. I've been playing for 15+ years and I have a couple of Gibsons and a few Ibanezs but lately I've been wanting something different. I was thinking about getting a Strat, but then I started looking into EBMMs, specifically the Silhouette.

My local guitar shop has a used blue Silhouette Special (H-S-S) w/piezo & rosewood fretboard for $1375 CDN (approx $1145 USD) and I'm wondering if that's a decent price. I'm not sure what year it's from, but the guitar is pretty much mint with only a bit of scratching on the pickguard, also it has locking tuners.

I love the way it plays and the neck is super comfortable. I just have no idea how much a new Silhouette Special with similar options would cost and I don't want to get ripped off. Any help would be much appreciated.

That doesn't seem like too bad of a price. Get the serial number and post it in the sticky serial thread. Dan over there will get the born on date for you.

And welcome to the forums!

Be sure to contact customer service for any guitar related issues if you decide to pull the trigger on that Silo Spec.

Remember to keep your options open, now that you are here... why not check the For Sale thread. There are some lovely axes in there!

Welcome. Search around for a while. Watch auctions and check craigslist. You'll get a good idea real quick of the going value. Whichever one you end up getting, you'll love the Silhouette.

If it's mint and with piezo, then the price is quite fair. If you love the way it plays, then just get it!

A decent price if it is truly 'mint'. You might want to try to bargin them down a bit.

BTW, you won't be sorry choosing a Silhouette Special over a Stratocaster. Not to put down the Strat, but all things considered, the Silo is definitely superior. (IMO of course.) ;)

Imo, if it's truly mint, then it's an ok used price, but not a bargain. I'd offer just under a grand. Of course if you already love that particular guitar, it's mute... just buy it and enjoy it! You're not getting ripped off, but not a great deal either.

As an owner, I'm more than happy to see the used prices go up. As a buyer, it's another matter.

Good luck. There's a whole lotta Silo Special love here.

PS, and again just my opinion.. if I was around the price range you quote, I'd be considering a new one with a great warranty.

Thanks for all the replies, they were very helpful.

I was able to borrow the guitar from the shop and I've had it at home for a couple of days. Last night I brought it over to my luthier pal and had him give it a thorough inspection. He gave it the thumbs-up and confirmed that it's pretty much mint.

Looks like I'll be adding an EBMM to my arsenal.

If you are referring to the blue silo special at Long and Mcquade in Winnipeg then you, my friend, have found an amazing guitar. If it is the one I'm thinking of....(matching headstock and piezo) then grab it.....that guitar is a beaut. very cool

The call it special for a reason. I bought mine just to have something to play while I waited on my Axis SS that I ordered to arrive. I love it.

I have to go out of town for a few days but I'll post some pics when I get back.
