New to Ernie Ball!

Hello everyone!

I am new to the world of Ernie Ball instruments, but I managed to pick one up today for what I thought was a steal of a deal. It's a USA SUB Sterling Bass. I've spent the better part of the morning researching what I could find on them and it seems as though they were only made for a couple of years.

It has been sitting in a case for quite a few years, so some of the parts are a little corroded, but I think they should clean up easily. The best part though, I paid a grand total of $80 for it and it came with a hard case too.

Outstanding! Rare color for a sub sterling. The case is worth half of what you paid. I had a black one once and loved it. Great neck and tone.

It's currently in a "project" status as the guy I bought it from said it had an issue with the jack. When plugged in, all I get is static. I'm on the hunt for a replacement and haven't had too much luck in finding one yet. I'd like to get it playing/working before I tear it down for a deep cleaning.

That was indeed a good deal and it should not take long to fix these kinds of issues.

pull the back control plate,probably just a loose connection.

I've pulled the back plate and all the connections look solid. I've used contact cleaner on all the pots as well and still don't have any sound. I sent an e-mail to customer service asking about a replacement jack and a wiring diagram, just awaiting a reply.

If you have a multimeter you could trace the cables and see if there's bad cable or connection somewhere.

I plan on doing that this weekend. I stripped the guitar today, so the electronics are out and it should make tracing cables/checking connections a bit easier. I did hear back from Customer Service, now I'm just waiting for the wiring diagram. I will get this figured out!

Here is a quick picture of my workstation today as I was troubleshooting the electronics.

I was able to determine that the jack is faulty. I had power making it to the pre-amp and had a reading from the pickup at the soldered connections on the jack. So something internal was messed up. Placed a call to customer service and due to being in the middle of inventory, I have to wait until Monday before I can order one. I can't wait to get this all back together!
