On Sat night I went to see my old band. At the end of the night they called me up to play a few songs & their new bass player happens to play a Bongo 5 H/S. After those three songs I realized how comfortable & familiar it was to me(had a couple of 5's before & hated them).
Well..... the next day I was looking for one & not finding any used on the net. I remembered there was a Bongo 5 at my local GC so I went to the inventory section on the MM site & I see this "Bongo-5_Hs Carbon_Blue_Pearl Rswd_Painted White_Ice_Pg 164-20-22-13"
Sooooo I call & the nimrod gives me this waaay high price so I balk. Waited until the next day & went up there. Well the thing was marked down much below what this boner told me on the phone.....and he had to have seen that tag because when I called I asked him to make sure it was an H/S & he had to physically go look. Anyhow I first tried a Stingray 5 they had used just so I wouldn't look highly enthused on the Bongo. When the guy came over I just told him I was in the market for a 5'er & like MMs. So he left me alone for a bit & I grabbed the bongo & tried it.....liked it quite a bit. It had the usual headstock nicks & I wound up walking out w/ a sweet deal....and it actually came w/ a case....because we all know GC tries to charge extra for them.
They also had a decent selection of HH & HS Sterlings & 'Rays.....although I chuckled at the price of the HH 'Ray.....was rediculous.
Anywhoooo.....here's the pics:

Nice Score

Beautiful bass. That's my favorite color for Bongos.

Try playing in G on the 8th fret of the B string. You got a deal. A good deal.

What's really funny is it took a MM to get me to play a 5'er. I had 2 previous Fender 5'ers...the last being in 2003 & the sound & feel had so much to be desired that I swore off 5 strings. Now that I'm in this sick & twisted Bongo crowd, I'm really liking the sound of the low 'B'....which sounded like crap on the previous basses. My technique will need some work, and you won't be seeing me play "The Real Me" anytime soon on it, I have much more enthusiasm to learn the 5'er so it's not as foreign to me as it has been. My practice with it last night(about 3 hours after purchase) went quite well & I already incorporated some low 'B' into a few songs.
BTW....any of those boneheads on TB who say the 'B' on a Bongo 5 isn't that great needs a new amp!:D
Hey....if anybody wants a chuckle about he GC price of an HH 'Ray, PM me.
