Just jumped in the pool with this 20th Anniv. I somehow never got into EB/MM, but man that's sure going to change, I can't freakin' believe what a killer bass this, not a bad tone on it, I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks, Rick

Thanks, really glad I finally got on board, there definitely will be more. I see the new Stiing Ray 5's have Alnico, are there any plans for a production model similar to the Anniv?

Welcome, Rick. The Anniversary SR5 is unique (so far) with the fancy top, mahogany tone block and tweaked preamp. (Plus, well, just LOOK AT IT.)

All the production SR5s will now have alnico, though.

Hi Rick. Welcome. Gorgeous bass. Not sure from your question if you're under the impression that the 20th SR5 has Ceramic pole pieces, but if so, don't worry, they're Alnico!

Thanks, yeah I know all the specs on the 20th, I was referring to the whole bass, I like
the maple top deal, I have to go play some SR 5's to see the difference, I would expect the reg. to be different, I think the tone change would be more from the pre amp & wood than the pup's, I bought the Anniv. immediately after seeing Ed Friedland's review on you tube. I'm glad I found one. I'm one of the people who felt 5 string's had to be a 35" scale, I sure as hell was wrong on that one! Seems like a great forum, thanks again.

Welcome aboard, Rick. You just happened to snare the exact bass I would love to get next. That is one gorgeous Maple top you got there. Well done.

Yeah, that's a great review Ed did. It made me want to get one right away too, but then I got kinda "side-tracked" when the Redwood BFR SR4 was unveiled at NAMM, shortly afterward. I'm eye-balling one again now, though. :)

those are just fabulous and some dealers didnt really know what they were about and now you can find them discounted at many places. That is if you can find them, as they didnt sell nearly as well as they should have. I think you will find the anniv more mid punchy and it truly has its own voice which is wierd for an active bass.....
