Hello all,

I used to lurk here a lot and when my current predicament came up this past weekend, I knew right where I had to go.

Long story shot, I have a Bongo that I love very much (obviously) and I've had it for quite a while.

Well this past weekend I had a friend over and he kicked a cord that sent a whole mess of stuff flying straight into my Bongo.

Aftermath:

Needless to say I was pretty crushed, and my friend, being the decent human being he is has offered to do whatever is necessary to appease me. Unfortunately I don't know what my options are here short of selling it and having him repay me the diminished value.

Can you get touch up paint from Music Man and get it repaired? Can I send it back and have them restore it?

I'm open to any an all suggestions, including places on where to hide said friend's body :D

Sorry my first post on here couldn't be under happier circumstances.

The first cut is the deepest. A couple of more diggers like that and it will start being a bass with character. Your buddy needs to pay for all beer and bush for a couple of months at least. And if his girlfriend is good looking or has a hot friend. Myself, I only like instruments that have war wounds. So to me, your bass looks better now!

There's no good way to restore it to its pre-calamitous state?

Not really. I mean, you can have it stripped, the dings filled and refinished, but that's not an inexpensive thing to do if you have it done correctly.

On the other hand, you could paint it lime green or purple or something really different............

Bad news.

Idea.... refill the digs and have an artist friend to paint something of your choice in that spot, like in a tattoo style or something cool to cover it up. If the artist is talented no one will ever know and soon you won't see that as a marred bass but a beatiful personalized piece of art. Of course your friend will have to pay for everything first and then... when you've done with him, call a reputable human disposal firm and have him "erased".

That would be the reputable firm of "Me, Myself and I"

HI Scurvy,

Apart from all the "MOJO" stuff, refinishing a guitar/bass really isn't that expensive, say a couple hundred bucks give or take a few. Try contacting RS guitar works, I've used their services in the past and they do a great job. Their email is: [email protected]. I like to keep my gear as new as possible, so IMHO forget the whole relic "mojo" thing, gear costs a lot of money and banging up an instrument like an EBMM is the same as banging up a Porsche 911 S4...it might happen, but do you really want to do that? Uh no, you get it fixed. Hope that helps.

Well....let's call it "high opinion content".

There are plenty of people paying extra for someone in a "custom shop" to beat their new basses with belt buckles and all that 'relic' business.

George Porter's P bass is an object of desire for plenty of bassists who somehow believe that 'mojo' is transferable.

Have you ever seen Bobby Vega's Jazz bass?

I'm ambivalent about this sort of thing. New and shiny and perfect or old and beat-up and roadworn....I dunno. I guess I like both.

Just curious - in such cases, would it be possible to ship the damagaed body back to EBMM for replacement? - like you would do with a neck or other damaged/defective component? Thx.

You can either drive your 911 like it's a showroom piece, or you can USE it. The same goes for the Bongo:D

Well if I owned a 911 I would certainly use the hell out of it but if my buddy stumbled into it and bent the fender, I wouldn't leave it as is, I'd get it fixed!

i guess i'm with Jack on this, i kinda like both. I bought my sterling which had already been mojoed by the previous owners (some bumps and varnish cracks). i like it as is and am never worried about scratching it more.

Some days i find my 20TH SR5 a bit too perfect, i'm guessing time will do his work.

Scurvy, find someone in your neighborhood to do the job. EBMM won't fix it for you they are too busy building my new bongo ;)

good luck in getting that nice bass in a condition you like

Great I cannot recommend a refinisher but if someone else can thats great....I find it hard to believe that they can do a Bongo for $200 but go for it i you think its good.

Caca I dont sell touch up because is looks like Caca!!!! hehehe
