Greetings, everyone!

I acquired my first Ernie Ball this past December (ordered it in September). It's a Vintage Sunburst Axis with premium quilt top. The guitar is simply amazing, frankly. I'll spare everyone the wonderful details lest this thread wind up horribly verbose! ;O) At any rate, I know the differences between the EVH and Axis have been discussed many times on this forum but, I was wondering if anyone can answer a question for me. Supposedly, the only difference between the Axis and EVH necks is additional fretboard width at the heel of the Axis neck but, regarding the rear contour, are all of the other dimensions still the same (e.g. "wear-shaped" profile a la EVH's 5150 Kramer)? The only thing I seem to find is conflicting reports. Some say the Axis neck feels thicker (front-to-back) and not as "worn in" but, others imply the neck feels the same, simply wider down at the heel. Basically, I'm trying to justify whether I need to risk my life (wife would probably kill me) and find/purchase an EVH in addition to the Axis (due to vast neck differences) or, simply be content (poor word choice!) with the Axis, knowing that the necks really aren't that much different. Thanks!!!

I'm one who thinks they feel slightly different in the ways you described. The Axis neck, while wonderful, feels more new to me and less broken in. The differences are subtle but I noticed the difference the first time I picked up an Axis.

I trust what we're told about the specs being only slightly different. But to me the difference in feel is there.

Neither is bad though. It's a preference thing.

Now, the rest of you can start hazing me if you want.
