Hey all,

Just bought this baby:

ALHH.JPG

Played it yesterday at the store, played like a DREAM. Actually went in to pick up a Les Paul, chose this one instead, simply no contest. Wise choice, wouldn't you say? ;)

I pick her up tomorrow. Can't wait! :D

Nice, those GC Special's have the push/pull for the split on the pups. Very, nice, great color too!!!

Yeah, I loved the tonal variety I was getting when I played it yesterday. Quick question, for anyone who may know: when the knob is pulled up to split, which coil of the two in each humbucker is active?

EDIT: Just talked to Billy in Customer Service (great guy, BTW!), and he sent me a diagram that shows for the bridge pickup, when the knob is pulled up, coil 1 is active (closest one to the bridge), and for the neck pickup, coil 4 (closest one to the neck) is active. Position 3 on the 5-way switch is very interesting with the knob up... it's coil 1 in series with the combination of coils 2 and 4 in parallel. Cool stuff! :D

Well done Thomas, a most excellent choice I must say!!

That split coil option sounds really tasty, I wonder if it's possible to retrofit, I guess it must be?

Anyway, beautiful guitar, you will love it.

Very nice color, congrats! I'd love to get my hands on one of those, but unfortunately, they're hard to find over here in Europe.

Picked her up yesterday, and spent a couple hours playing last night. Plays even smoother than I remembered in the store. I absolutely LOVE the neck!

The pickups are a little hotter than what I intend to use this guitar for (I have a JPXI that I use for high gain stuff), so I'm thinking about swapping the stock pups for Dimarzio PAF 36th Anniversaries. Any thoughts/comments about that?

It's your guitar so do what you want, I would prefer to keep the stock pick ups and adjust the output with the volume knob according to your needs.

Alternatively the new Luke Transition pick-ups may be worth considering?

Congrats on the new AL HH! Kind of funny that I also bought my first EBMM guitar when I went out with intentions of buying a Les Paul. Till this day I have never owned a Gibson though I own 9 EBMM guitars. I personally would not swap out the pups, as the AL HH has it's own voice and is a very versatile guitar. Checkout Blues Sarecono putting the guitar through it's tonal paces=

I have both the Albert Lee 3 single Coil Seymour PU,Version & the new HH double Coil Di's Ver. I also miss the cutting edge of the bridge single coil on The SSS. I split the coil on The HH bridge PU and it is better. I'm thinking it's the Seymour's ver's the Di's tone curve. If I could find a Duncan Humbucker with the orignal curve & do a split switch, I'd be in business. I've put this question to the Seymour Duncan, but no answer. Anyone looking for that same mod.? Over all I like the playability of the HH better, a little larger mass feel in the neck. I love both Guitar's. Albert actually played my first one, so it's kinda special.
