I just sold my soul for a used Mystic Dream JP6 (fully loaded).

I went to GC to check out the EVH Fenders. I was looking for a guitar with a tremolo and that I could Drop D on easier than my Ibanez JS 1000. I tried a bunch of stuff and nothing was really calling to me. The EVH had such a horrible fret job. The manager cut his hand open taking the guitar down from the fret work on the guitar. Looking around I see that they have a Mystic Dream JP6 on the wall. Got the guitar down and went into the private room to check it out. What a difference in quality vs all of the other guitars I was trying out.

My wife who was with me, wasn't really digging that I wanted to buy a new guitar. But I explained to her, that even if I stared to sell off my other gear tomorrow, the chances are that this guitar is going to be gone very soon. I agreed to sell off my two other electrics for the JP6. I had to wait two weeks to pick up the guitar. It had not cleared (police hold) to be sold yet. When I picked up and spoke to the manager, the guitar had been on the floor for less than 24 hours. :)

Brought it to the next band rehersal. The guitar is fantastic. The best neck I have ever played on. Being able to switch between an acoustic and electric sound with a flick of the switch is game changing for me. it really opens up the type of music I am doing with my band. Great sounds out of the JP6, but I still have some tweaking to do with my Nova System and the JP6.

So this weekend I take the guitar out and play and I notice that the 3 way pickup selector switch isn't working properly. I am pretty pissed, but what am I going to do. I called GC and they have a 30 day return policy. I spoke to the manager and they will fix the switch. I just hope they do the correct job. I am just glad that I have a decent relationship with the guitar tech.

I still need to post some pics, but all in all I am really happy.

What about the switch wasn't working correctly? Static-y? Maybe a shot of deoxit would have fixed it up. In any event glad to hear that GC is going to fix it for you. Might want to look at the switch when you get it back and make sure they didn't put a cheapie in there if it needed replacing.

Congratulations for your JP6

A bad switch can be annoying but it's an easy fix. Most of the time, some contact cleaner does the trick.
In any case, the most important is the lutherie of the guitar. The electronic can always be changed / repaired.

The switch does not have all three positions. For example, I can get the neck, middle and then the bridge won't click in and stay. It keeps poppoing back to the middle position. If i aggressivley move the switch back and forth, I think I can get it to stick in the bridge position, but then I lose the neck position. It will keep clicking back to the middle position.

Just got off the phone with MM customer service. I have (or GC has to) order the part from Music Man. It is a special switch made for them. Which means GC does not have it in stock I am sure. Now I wonder what the deal is going to be. Will they replace it for me free, or will I have to order the switch and have them install it.

Well, if Guitar Center said they'd fix it then they should fix it. In any event it's not a major ordeal to replace a switch, so it shouldn't cost too much if you end up having to pay anything. It's an extremely minor issue and at least you know they would have to use the right switch!

Push them to order the part from MM...if they want the sale, it's a quick fix, but it is true that only MM can get that exact switch. Don't let them try to stick you with some other hardware, as the petrucci switching in that guitar really is worth it!

They are authorised eb dealers - the switch is twenty odd bucks - about an hour bench time if that. the switch has a captive brass plate that is "handed" It can only go in, one way.

It is not uncommon for people to beat on the toggle switch and slam it around to the point of breaking it. The switch is metal so the common thought is "I can beat the tar out of this and it will be fine" - under normal usage they are good for as long as any toggle (years).

The EB JP switch has a board on it with all the pads labeled as to which wires get soldered where, and that helps make it fairly idiot proof.

As spud mentioned, the switch has a keyway so it can only be installed in one direction.
