NGD! And then there were 3...(Silhouette Special content)

Picked up this 6 month old beaut from the original owner today; it was a local guy who has an awesome home studio. It sounded great through his Axe FX, but that's another story (I'm trying to subdue the GAS for one of those). Doesn't get much better...scored a great guitar and met a super cool dude in the process.

Initial, random thoughts: LOVE the pickups! It's nice being able to get accurate Stratty tones again but with the playability & feel of a Music Man. I can't believe how much lighter this thing is than my others. This is the first maple boarded guitar I've bought in several years. The neck profile is simply awesome; lots of girth but narrow lengthwise. Takes me back to the first EBMM I ever played, which was a mid-90's Silhouette Special. That set me down this path to Music Man fanatacism, so I guess I've come full circle now that I own one of the guitars that started the addiction.

VERY nice score! I've always had a thing for bursts and translucent colors. The vintage burst is really underrated and looks MUCH better in person...I still wish that EBMM offered a few more trans colors on the Silos like a tobacco burst.

Anyway, that one looks really cool and i was always a fan of white pearl or vintage pearl guard in your case and black pickup covers. I would personally like a rosewood on that, but your guitar actually has a nice vintage tint and a bit of figuring to it which is really nice. Very cool trio you have there.

Nice score! I've been in the market for an HSS guitar and I think this will be the one. Is there a big volume difference between the neck and bridge pickups?

From my own experience: not that much. And you can adjust the height too to adjust levels if you so desire (I didn't).

I was a bit surprised by the amount of figuring on the neck. The pics don't do it justice at all...the edges have a 3D-ish flame look to them. The last brand new Silhouette I played barely had any visible grain lines.

I can clearly see the nice grain pattern and also the natural tint of the maple because of the figuring. To be honest, that's why I've never had a maple fingerboard or want to order a Silo Special with one, because they always look waaaaay too plain and just too light. I dont even care about the figuring, but the maple just looks too white. I know it's kind of silly, but to me it just does not look right with most colors. I like maple necks to have some kind of a tint. Now those classic Silo's that were out as a limited run are pretty awesome with that crazy yellow vintage tint.

Now I know that over time the maple will darken with use, but that's more of dirt, grime and oil from the hands. Not my ideal tint for the maple haha. At least not for the fretboard...I dont care about the back of the neck...this is why I am a rosewood guy anyway .
