Pick swirls can be easily removed - use "guitarscratch remover" - i've used it - it takes a little elbow grease but will get the finish back to new

Something like that won't dull the finish? Not that I'd mind really. I kind of like the look of matte finish on a flat guitar like this. Anyway, thanks for the tip, I'll have a look into that.

The frets sticking out not common with EBMM.

Hm, good to know. I guess that's another strike for this one. They stick out quite a bit. In fact, checking it out again just now, I don't think I've ever played a guitar with such sharp frets.

Well, lack of stickers and condition tell me it's been played quite a bit...but it having the stickers wouldn't necessarily mean it was new. The one from Ebay still has its stickers.

The one from eBay with the stickers suggests that the owner was very meticulous and probably took very good care of it, IMHO. All of my "collectable ones" still have the stickers. Maybe I'm just super particular?

+1 to that. I have never played a 'new' EBMM with fret sprout. However, I was in GC yesterday in Greensboro, NC and almost every guitar on the floor had fret sprout. From the $99 used Squires to the ones in the multiple $1000 category they were all the same. I would imagine that either the store is not heated/cooled/humidified correctly or their warehouse/distribution is not either. I would not buy anything from GC sight unseen as almost every time I go in there its the same.

Not too surprised. You're probably right about the stores temp / humidity not being controlled properly. It's not really a problem in So Cal, but the one I ordered came from the east coast, so I'm sure the weather changes have more affect. I'm a bit worried about the one on its way to me now. Shipping is slow, and it's been a cold winter. I'll have it on the 5th, so hopefully the case would have kept the cold out well enough.

If it has a little sprout when you get it its not that hard to fix. Just PLAY it! The natural oils and warmth of your hand will help it. Also cut up a sponge,soak it in water and wring it out then put it in a ziplock baggy. Poke a few holes in the bag then throw it in the case. Within a week or 2 you'll notice it begin to go away

Or, you can run a humidifier in the room that the guitar is in to add moisture to the neck.

My ALHH was delivered in Winter, in fact I did not think I was going to get it as there was so much snow the day the FedEx truck came! Also when I lived in England I ordered multiple EBMM guitars from both coasts at various times of the year and had them shipped to England. None of these guitars had any fret sprout. I think it's a GC thing. EBMM guitars come off the line perfect and I would not hesitate to buy one sight unseen. It's absurd to do fret work on a brand new guitar which is why I will probably not buy a guitar from GC without playing it.

My ALHH came from The Perfect Guitar, and I would not hesitate to buy from them again.

I don't think all rosewood necks are really affected by a change in humidity. My AL has handled Vegas with flying colors. My gold Axis has too.. The 2 Green Axis have been more temperamental as they aren't played as much.

Yeah, I have one of those little case humidifiers for my acoustic that I can pop in the case, if need be. I think I have a solution for the balance problem though. It's not ideal, but it should help. Thinking about buying one of these Slinger Sling Strap Guitar Strap But I'm having a hard time paying nearly $50 after shipping, for a nylon strap. I'm also going to want to get some strap locks. And I still need to find screws for the backplate. I called EB, and the screws themselves are only $0.25 a piece, but shipping is $7.50 regardless.
