wohooo first let me say i will add pictures tomorrow to this post. but a bit of a story about me as i am new here., i am 39 years old, i have been playing guitar since i was 9 years old, but i got sick two years ago and found out i had cancer stage 3 and going into stage 4, so being sick i had to sell all my gear to help pay for medical bills and meds, well when last summer it turned to stage four.. and i was given two options 1st one do nothing and die on about 4 months, or two try a risky surgery that if it works i can live longer, but also knowing i could die on the table if it failed.. i chose the surgery, as i had to try as i did not wanna leave my kids and wife with the what if's, as in what if he did not try it.. etc.. well my kids and wife was sad i had to sell all my gear... and when i was going to all these dr apts etc i seen the sterling ax40d and i was like omg i would love to own that.. well being 7 months after my surgery i am doing well and was shocked when this evening my daughters and wife gave me a brand new sterling ax40d quilt trans black... first off i will say it feels nice, and looks nice.. wow.... now onto a few questions.. what gauge brand do these come with from the factory??? and what would be a good sounding amp for me to have, nothing to big and heavy as it will only be for home use and i have to be careful lifting heavy items... but i dont want something that will sound bad either.. and nothing that will break the bank as i dont have much money... i would say 200-300 for amp is what i have to spend....

hope this post is not to boring but its the short version...lol.. and i am so excited my brain is all over the place with emotion... also i still have a long road ahead of me but i am alive for now... and i love Ernie ball products.. Congrats Monster and welcome to the family! Really glad to hear you're doing well! Stay strong and have fun fun fun playing that AX40D. I just traded one in and really enjoyed it while I had it. Played like a dream and had one of the most beautiful quilts ever. I think you'll really like it. Hang around here if you have the time as there are really great people in this little corner of the web.

Play while you can, rest when you need to and love those around you.

As for amps, there is a veritable cornucopia available to you. For your budget, you can get a low wattage tube amp or a decent wattage solid state depending on your musical tastes.

Let me throw my pennies on the table here. Yamaha THR series or Roland Cube Lite. Very lightweight, 2.1 stereo, separate volume control for your IO device and decent tone. Designed for table top usage, but they have adequate volume for home use. I use the Cube Lite with the Cube Lite Monitor for karaoke style fun in the basement.

Uhm...your post seems to have disappeared.

Typical after inserting an image when you are a new forum member, needs to be moderated. It'll show back up once the mods approve it (happened to me as well).

Monster, while I haven't yet read your initial post (because it's in limbo at the moment), congrats on a cool guitar! Yes, definitely a cool place to hang. Welcome to the family!

Welcome to the forum and the Family!
Yes, AX40D does in fact come from the factory with Ernie Ball Slinky 10-46.

If you need to know anything else just ask, or send a PM. I can answer just about anything you might want to know on our Sterling By Music Man guitars :)

Monster-
thanks for joining the forum and sharing your story with us. We (not to be the token mouth piece for the group) are glad you're still with us and able to share the NGD with us. Many of us enjoy one another's NGD Posts just as much as the person writing 'em especially when it comes with a story like yours.

Brian is a great guy and runs the show at Sterling by MusicMan factory
the Vyper is a great at home amp. Wishing you a continued recovery and well being.

Peter
