So I brought home a Luke III - black with SSH because I absolutely love the neck on my L3 HH....

Something is weird though...the two single coil pickups are significantly louder than the humbucker. In fact I have to pull the boost on the humbucker to get it to the level of the single's.....

Any ideas what may be causing that?????

Yea, the preamp. I believe the HSS version has the trim pot to adjust the single coil levels in comparison to the humbucker. Probably needs to be turned down. I cant wait to have a LIII in HSS!!! Now where are those pics???

Just a super wild guess but I'd check the battery? Doubt that'll do it but I'd start there. I haven't encountered that issue. Sorry man.

I took the control access plate off and it is perfect. Must have been wiring or something touching something, cuz it is all fine now. HOWEVER now I find a neck pocket stress crack on the lower horn side and what looks like another starting on the upper horn. That kinda bothers me too....

The neck pocket stress crack is really a small issue my 25th as it and I don't bother.

Have you ever seen close up of Steve vai main guitar? :) and as you know it's not an EBMM.

Of course if the guitar is new you can always have this fixed

And of course congrats on the new guitar !

I wound up returning it. I don't mind acquiring those or even purchasing them used, but hate to buy them on a new instrument. I will likely special order another however...I love the pickups on the L3's (both the HH & SSH)...
