Hello all,
since I am back with the family I felt that it needed a proper thread of its own
Last Friday I pulled the trigger on a Luke III 'Starry Night'.
Here's the story for those of you who are interested:
Actually I had no intention of buying a new guitar at all - and especially not a Luke model
(I had a Luke II some years ago but I just could not cope with the skinny frets and the neck. My hands always started hurting and cramping everytime I played it so I decided to part ways with it
)
So Thursday last week I went to the shop to have them fix a minor problem with one of the Luke II successors I bought there three years ago.
While I was waiting for the fix to be completed I literally stumbled across that Luke III 'Starry Night' which sat in a guitar stand on the floor (instead of being displayed on the wall where it would have grabbed far more attention!) that caught my eye. Thinking back, I could swear it looked back at me
What struck me first was the sparkle finish, which to me was simply breathtaking (I always loved sparkly finishes). Next thing was the ridiculously figured roasted maple neck - never seen one like that before!
In order to pass the time I picked it up and noticed that there was something different about it compared to my former Luke II: the frets seemed to be bigger and therefore it was way more comfortable to play (for me, that is). I felt "at home" immediately with this neck! Actually that was the moment when G.A.S. kicked in...
Only one thing irritated me: there seemed to be no boost function, which is one point that I find to be extremely helpful in a lot of playing situations. I wondered if this feature had been left out on the Starry Night model, but since there was nobody in the shop able to answer that question I went back home with my fixed guitar only - but the Luke III had already started to possess my mind
Fortunately there are the always helpful forumites which were able to help me with my confusion and removed any (ever so slightly) existing doubts. The frets are bigger - hence more comfortable to me. The boost function was always there, only the Volume knob had become a little loose and therefore it could not be pushed down far enough to activate the boost circuit
(Thanks to jones4tone and jilbasscatcher for your support!)
Needless to say: I went back to the shop the next day and bought the guitar, even though I hadn't planned any purchase this or next year.
But the way I look at it is that this guitar found me and it wasn't meant for me to let it go!
I am already loving it to pieces!
OK - enough said, here are some pics of that very instrument which the shop took for their online presentation!
I will post some additional pics in the nearest future!
All the best, rock on
