Finally found one I could afford and now she's mine. In excellent shape but that gold really does wear off the bridge, eh? The finish really looks it's best out in the sunlight.

Let me ask this - is the coil split only supposed to work in the middle position??? That's the way the one was that I tried out.

Congratulations, couldn't agree more on the sunlit comment. You could remove the entire coating via certain methods. On a recent thread, a forumite suggested a Dremel with the proper buffering-head.

I assumed that it would work in all positions but, you are right, it only seems to work when the 3 way is in the middle position and the "control function diagram" on the product page backs that up.
