That is interesting , never knew that :)

The Latin version of the name is Stefanus (and in late Latin Estephanus).
In French, we have the form "Stéphane" (very close of the Latin form, and I presume, came to England with Guillaume le Conquérant, the guy you call William The Conqueror ... and took the forms "Steve" or "Steven").
We have also the form "Etienne" or "Estienne", closer to the Spanish form Esteban.

Saint Etienne and Saint Stéphane are in fact the same guy ...
