NGD! Rosewood JP13 Content

This NGD thread is long overdue, but I finally managed to put it down and snap some crappy cell phone pics. Boy does this thing play like butter. WOW. The craftsmanship is flawless as always, and the new Petrucci Illuminator pickups are FANTASTIC!!! The Illuminator bridge pickup is far superior to the CrunchLab, IMO.

This, so far would be my only complaint so far- the neck pickup is mounted very far away from the strings in comparison to the bridge, so I need to raise that a bit and then we should be golden. Will help to get some volume that seems to be missing

btw. the difference of the PU distance to the strings is the same as on my JPs.

What are the exact tonal differences of the Illuminator bridge pickup vs. the Crunchlab? (also compared to the D-Sonic in case you ever tried it) I'm very curious about this, since I want to replace the stock DSonic in my '07 JP - so far there's is very little info on the illuminator online

Hi Sigvard-

The Illuminator is a much brighter, more open pickup. The tone has more presence than the CrunchLab, and is not nearly as dark. I thought the CrunchLab/D-Sonic to be too muddy in the low end with not enough high end spank- it was a very dry boomy pickup which I did not like at all. The illuminator improves all of the problems- tightens up the low end and adds much needed treble/upper register presence. Hope this helps.

I actually slightly prefer the Liquifire to the Illuminator neck, but not enough to warrant a swap. The Illuminator neck is a little less powerful than the liquifire- it sounds great distorted but not as full as the liquifire when played clean. Still a great pickup.
