I have the patience of a gnat on crack. I recently asked a question on the forum about neck comparison between a Kaizen and a Richardson. I've always like the styling of the Cutlass, but really love the electronics configuration of the JR models. I was thinking - maybe someday I'll get me one of those JRs. Well stupid me decided to do some window shopping on Reverb and Ebay. I saw some really beautiful guitars but nothing that just grabbed me - nor should it since "I'm just looking". I saw a number of the Majora Purples. I really dig that finish, but a lot of the tops I saw were just - OK. Now - they were really nice and heavily figured, but just not my personal bag. I'm quite picky. While shopping around, I saw one where the top was absolutely fantastic! But the roasted neck had zero figurine whatsoever. I really wanted that top, but I knew not having any figuring on the neck would bug the heck out of me forever. So I decided to pass. And I'm supposed to be passing anyway right? Just looking?
I had decided that I was locked in on the Majora Purple and I would just have to wait until the right specimen came along someday. Then I saw one on the Guitar Center website that I really really liked! And then I paused and thought, I bet that is just stock photos and not the actual one that they have in stock. So I called and confirmed that there was one in stock and that the photos on the website were not of the one that they had. So I asked if they could send me some photos. They said they could not send me some photos because the guitar was in a warehouse and that's where it ships from and there was no way to go take photos of it. OK. So I took a leap of faith and I told them when I ordered it if there was even anything minuscule about it, I did not care for, I was not going to take it. I explained that if I'm spending this much money, I'm going to get exactly what I want and I'm going to be very picky about it. They said they understood and said that was fine - "That is why we have a 45 day return policy". So I ordered it with the understanding that I may not even leave the store with it if it wasn't up to snuff. They said that was totally cool. I have to be honest. I felt completely guilty. I felt like I was definitely making them go through some expense for the large possibility that the sale might not even go through. But they said they were OK with that.
So I went to the store yesterday and picked it up. I'm going to spend this afternoon setting it up exactly the way I want it. In fact, I've already put new strings on it, an extra spring on the trem and tuned it down to E flat. The only thing left to do is intonate the low EA and D strings. They always need a hair of adjustment whenever I switch from default strings to my 10 to 52 cobalt slinky's. So here she is currently! Oh yeah - it sounds and plays amazing - (should go without saying here!):
