Well my short but intense search for an Axis is complete. A few notes about the guitar:

I just opened the case but the top of this thing is amazing. I know there are several folks that prefer flame to quilted maple tops but this thing looks like liquid. I am very pleased. It is basically new - I can't imagine it has been played much and the case candy was all present (polish cloth bag hasn't even been opened).

I'm already in love with the neck and I've only played the thing for 5 minutes at work! I have seen more figured necks in my life but this one still looks amazing and more, it feels incredible.

One final note before I present the pics (porn) - it's amazing how the flash of my camera affects the top of the guitar. Lots of the quilt disappears with the flash. I opened the guitar in my office, which is basically a lab so I have lots of good light and was able to take some pics without the flash - but you'll definitely notice a difference.

Kudos BP and crew. This is an amazing instrument and now that my total number is greater than 1, I can officially say I have balls.

So, here's the pics!

This was my first look, fresh after opening the case.

Natty head stock, but it still looks great.

Clean fretboard. Not overly figured, but yummy none-the-less.

Pic with flash, figured some but the next pic is AMAZING.

It's like this in person. I could just stare at the quilt. :D

100_2532-half.jpg

Flash again, figuring diminishes.

100_2533-half.jpg

No flash - boom.

100_2534-half.jpg

Tried a different angle because I noticed reflection from my lights in the last pic.

Not too figured neck, but - well you know how it feels because they all feel the same.

Now I get to stare at it all day. I can't wait to get home and plug in.

:D

Gorgeous, sweet quilt top. It's been two weeks now with my first AXIS and I still feel like I'm on a honeymoon. It is the only guitar I have in which the intonation is perfect.

Nice. There is still something about that trans gold finish that gets me; the very first color photo I saw of the EVH Sig 19 years ago was of a trans gold one.

Officially it's trans gold - but I'm no expert on the subject. I would have sworn this was orange because that's how it looks. It makes me think more orange than yellow but it is gorgeous. The top looks great, the feel is superb, and I'm thrilled in general. The guitar was built in the spring last year but I suspect it was only owned for a couple months. The guy I bought it from claimed to only have about 2 hours of play time on it. Not a ding, scrap, line, scratch, or even tiny imperfection anywhere.
