We set up in the corner of our local brew pup for a New Year's Eve gig and the official debut of the Big Al delivered by Santa last week. We did about 40 tunes, classic blues/Stax/soul material to party staples like Wooly Bully/Hang On Sloopy etc.

I'm sure you bass players will agree that playing an all-nighter in a trio format is both fun and challenging at the same time -- lots of space to fill. Nikki did great, she locked with the drummer all night. When I dropped out to solo, the groove was right there all night long.

The Big Al exceeded all my expectations. We ran her direct to PA through a Tech21 BDDI, with a feed to a floor monitor. We'll just say she filled room quite nicely, with plenty-O-bottom to spare.

The single coils really grind nice when she digs in. My ears really perked up on higher-register runs; it's got a real nice focused but lively voice. I can't wait to see/hear how she eventually dials in all those buttons.

A favorite moment was the standup-ish imitation she pulled off on "Stand By Me". Mrs. LawDaddy was especially proud.

On to the pics!!!

Who's cool???
