(Nearly) New Guitar Day!

Yes! I ordered a Silhouette Special and now waiting to be delivered here in Europe!

Actually I did not order just ‘a’ Silo:
Music Man did an exclusive release in collaboration with Roy Ziv honoring the 2005 MIAC Silhouette Special seen throughout his work.

This guitar is an exact new release of the guitar Roy used for more than 20 years.

Actually there are a few upgrades compared to the 2005 model which even make it a better release:

Roasted Maple neck

Stainless Steel frets

Compensated nut

Also the strings as from the factory are 10’s (normal 9, but to meet Roy Ziv’s setup)

As a student of Roy’s ‘Solo School’ I was heavily influenced by this new axe.

It will be my first Music Man guitar and my only experience with EBMM guitars in my life was a brief play on a Luke many years ago. What I remember then is that the neck felt sooo very smooth like butter and the sound of the pickups was so very defined.

As a new reader here on the forum for a few months I have read in many posts a lot of people dig the Silo big time and ‘cannot live without it’ so it seems I cannot go wrong here.

I’m very pumped to receive it in some days and will share my experience and pics here of course.

More info about this release (and eventually order it): Roy Ziv Inspired Silhouette Special

In the meantime if you wanna hear it, check Roy’s livestreams, f.e. here:

To be continued…:)

That's so cool! I have one of the originals, which pre-dated roasted maple and had nickel silver frets. This is definitely a step up!

Link to the vault for anyone who wants to order....

This is also slightly confused. Or maybe two similar but different guitars all in one. :)

There were two Buttercream guitars back in early 2000s. The first was in 2001 and was the a special run of 30 Silhouette Specials for the Musical Industries Association of Canada (MIAC) to mark their 30th anniversary. If recall correctly (and I think I do) they were all SSS and maple board, white pickguard, non-matching headstock. The MIAC logo was in black on the rear of the guitar.

Then there was the 2005 Buttercream Limited Edition. This was available to order for most of the line of EBMM guitars and basses (except the Axis guitars i think). Rosewood board, matching headstock, tortoise shell pickguard (except on the Petrucci guitars), and red silk screened EBMM logos and "Limited Edition 2005" logo on the back. Here's a StingRay 5...

Yeah I read many posts of you that you really dig the Silo, great DrKev!

It’s interesting, there may be a 3rd type? I cannot read what’s printed under the neckplate on Roy’s 2005 one, but it seems different than the 2 you mention on Reverb?

This photo is a cut out of the specsheet here: Roy Ziv Inspired Silhouette Special

That's an AI generated image of a guitar more worn than his. That's why you can't read it. It's not a real guitar. His original 2005 LE guitar never had that much paint flaking off.

Here's his video about his guitar. It's identical to mine, a 2005 LE. There is no third type.

Kevin, the video is 5 years old.
I presume the image is not AI generated but shows the evolution of the "flaking" process.

A bit of both. I asked Roy himself and he sent me this:

Turns out my editor used AI to generate a sideways angle of my old guitar, because he didn't have one for the side-by-side evolution photo. I'll attach the original shot he used before altering the photo. Definitely a lot more paint has flaked off since the "Why I Love My Guitar" video from a few years ago.
I just had it fixed on the website so the stamp is easier to read.
Nothing else was AI haha. Rest of the images are from Ernie Ball, or ones I took when I was visiting.

‘Mistery’ solved:)

So you are saying this is 5 total of the new version?
As for this batch at this moment, yes he once mentioned in his livestream.

In his Instapost he says: This is a very small batch with only a handful ready to ship.
