Great news here in the desert! Last night I went over for a jam session with local hippie-trippie band "Big Love".

The MarkBass got some great comments!

And there was much oooh-ing and aaah-ing over the "things are looking up" bass, so generously provided by BP! :D

After banging through about dozen tunes, I was asked to join permanently.

So, there ya have it! Back in the saddle after nearly losing my musical mind!

AND on an almost completely unrelated note, I have taken BP's advice and started a serious diet.

Trying to keep it under 1,200 calories a day now. And I've dropped 13 pounds already!

Now I can focus on the job search again. That one is a bit tougher. But, with any luck, I'll be back at it soon!

All the best, Ritchie :D

Come on over to the UK Ritchie ... I'll get you a job in the IRS !!!!! (HMRC)

Good to see that things are looking up.

My challenge - I gave up smoking for 7 years - started again for over a year - now I've kicked the habit again cos my BP (Blood Pressure!!!) is up!!

Nice that BP managed to sort you a bass out - nice gesture from a great company!!!

Exciting news, dude!!

I once found myself in a similar situation in life, and it was my very understanding boss who told me a lot of kind supporting words that really helped me overcome those struggles, among those I will never forget he said "once you have hit rock bottom the only other way is up" meaning that when you really are down and out, it can't get any worse and as soon as something positive happens, you will come out of it stronger than ever and life adversities will steer away from you on your rise to the top.

Careful on over doing the diet, Ritchie. 1200 calories day after day may not be the best for you. The usual disclaimer about starting an exercise or diet plan. Blah, blah, blah.

Great news on the band! Post some tunes when you get some stuff recorded.

Coolness all round Ritchie!
But I'm with Tom on the diet thing, not that I know a whole lot about calories and stuff, but I do know that your job hunting will suffer if you don't eat well. But I trut you know what you are doing, and I hope I'm right in doing so:)
cheers

Congrats on the gig!

On the diet front, you shouldn't be aiming to drop more than 1-2 lbs per week, max. Any weight loss faster than that is impossible to sustain in the long term. Oh, and the best exercise you can do is pump some iron, using compound movements (with some cardio thrown in as well) - that will add muscle and increase your metabolism so your body will burn more calories. Another tip, don't get fixated on the scales - if you add muscle and eat well your waist size will drop even though your actual weight may not decrease.

All the best with your plans!

Great to hear you're back into music, Ritchie. All the best for your next steps!

(BTW, even if you have had many other nice basses, that' a mighty fine setup you're rocking there!!!)
