Just got the emailed delivery notice,
but can't pick it up til tomorrow. Note
the dearth of frets but the surfeit of
knobs ... and exactly right number of
strings. But acoarst there's my exactly
wrong number of gigs ... as in zero :-(
But I just HADDA HAVE it.

Woulda preferred blank plank but MM
isn't making these anymore, so I take
it as it comes.

Having actually now received it, it IS beautiful and appears
to be in truly "as new" condition ... which is not all that rare
with used fretless basses [you know, the usually story]. So
here is a much better image of it ... not slick bass porn, but
much better than the thumbnail from the vendor as seen in
the OP. Still with the "click to enlarge" deal

Seems to be wearing Fender flats, and they sound new, in
dire need of some breaking in. They're severely way hawt !
Noticeably higher tension than most other flats, too, so I'm
pretty sure they are Fender.

I totally missed the piezos the first time around. Nice. Sterlings do this pronounced midrange thing that makes me think a fretless with piezos would be very interesting.

Pretty sure he meant not making basses with piezos and he would have preferred a blank plank on it. You can still get unlined fretless on basses, just not with a piezo.

It walks, it talks .... it also quacks like a duck, barks like
a dog, and now I'm trying to get it to crawl on its belly
like a reptile !

It's in perfect shape, not just cosmetically ... I can easily
get any set up you can imagine. Neck is even. All is good.

Concerning your take on its tone ... acoarst you're
correct and this "situation" renders this ax verrrry
fussy about strings. The [apparent] Fender flats it
came with sounded waaay hot. I put DR flats on it
to address that, but those produced really insane
whining, even with the action jacked up fairly high.
The DRs were promptly removed, and next came
D'A "Pure Nickel" Half Rounds [100 gauge], which
sound great over a wide range of setups. The D'As
seem to be keepers.

Kinda odd thing .... I have 4 of these [pair each 4
and 5-string], and this is the first one to be crazy
fussy about strings. I also have a non-piezo pair of
4-strings, equally non-fussy. Perhaps this example
is just unusually quirky and so thaz why it turned
up 16 years old but seemingly never played ?

You say it "would be very interesting" ? True dat,
but somehow this example turned out to be even
more "very interesting" than is typical
