Oh, yeah!!! :D

It was SWEET. I never realized just how good our keyboardist is! We were funkin', and he comes out with some SERIOUS Herbie Hancock/Bernie Worrell synth lines. It's amazing what you hear when you don't have an earful of PRS!

I also stumbled onto a neat little synth bass sound by running an Ibanez Phat-Head through an envelope filter. That was good for a twenty-minute jam!

Oh well, back to work...

Sounds like a good time! My ears are still ringing from Sunday night's gig (on top of the usual ringing); our guitar player had his amp cranked to 11 and was in the monitors too! I seriously considered going out to my truck and grabbing my shooters muffs.

No doubt! It's those damn high frequencies! They just KILL your hearing!!!

I have a good friend that started playin' geetar when we were both kids. He used to play a Tele through a big tube Fender amp. He would always put the amp up on a bar stool aimed at his head. Well, now he has tinnitus in his left ear!

The worst part is I remember telling him "that is going to make you deaf, you know!"

I'm not so sure that tinnitus is only caused by exposure to loud noises. I've had tinnitus since I was a kid and even that was before I played drums. I've had it so long that I don't even hear it most of the time. It's just part of my world. I really believe that mine was caused by chronic sinusitis.

That really sucks!

I think you are right. I have heard of tinnitus resulting from ear infections, etc.

In my friend's case, I'm pretty sure it was the Tele that did it. You know how absolutley PIERCING they can get on that bridge pick-up! ;)

It happened to me at an early age, but I didn't know what had until I was in my
30's. I always thought it was a result of playing next to Brendan O'briens marshall
stack back in high school. but I had a lot of ear and sinus infections growing up
in a moldy household.

Its always a treat to play when you can hear everyone else without the guitar player filling every gap with a riff and playing too loud.

Both can result in it and it sucks either way. No need for anyone that can play well to play so loud at a practice. No way it will get as tight as it needs to be if that loud.

IMHO of course.

Same exact situation here. I just hear mine constantly & never really give it a second thought. I do have a slight hearing loss in my left ear, but I've had that since childhood & I believe it's hereditary; my dad has a hearing loss & his dad had a hearing loss. I can't use the telephone with my left ear. :(

Wow, you guys! I had no idea tinnitus was so common. Glad to hear it doesn't bother you too much! I remember reading an interview with Pete Townshend years ago where he really complained that tinnitus was ruining his enjoyment of music, and that he would never play electric guitar again  etc, etc.

Doesn't seem to bother him much anymore, though!

then again, neither does the death of his bassist the night before the tour, apparently:eek: ...(there, I said it! I feel so BAD!)

Hmmmm!

A kindred spirit?

Wanna expand on your thinking behind this?

Ear>Eustacian Tube>Nose = blockage all the time, dull hearing, ringing in the ears, dizziness! :(

Exactly what you said!

I had terrible alergies when I was a kid. They aren't as bad now, but I do still have them. I notice that my tinnitus is much more noticable when my sinuses are stopped up.

For a while, I used Rhinocort (sp?) Aqua. It's a steroidal nasal spray that you use once a day. It seemed to help with the sinusitis and the tinnitus. I need to start using it again though. Both seem to have returned recently.

Yep, I should be taking a steroid more regularly up the hooter as well. Keep forget to restock on it when it runs out.

Better stop here before we get asked if this is an Ernie Ball Forum or a Medical Research Centre forum!
