Someone recently said MM Basses are mainly basses for slap technique.
Though true, I'm a non-slapper. I play pretty much traditional technique on my StingRay 5H. Pluck finger style over the pickup.
Curious how many other MM players are non-slappers or don't slap less than say 50% of the time?

The only thing I slap is the monkey.

I string my Stingrays with flats, play them finger style, and dial in a big fat arse end.

Tell your acquaintance ("someone") he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Of course the acquaintance is a GC sales man.
Tracs 2 & 7 on my site are with my StingRay 5 in Single Coil.
The rest of the mp3s are old.

38 years and still haven't learned to slap....

I'll do the odd pop, or thump the "E" string....

But that's about it....

Just a style I never cared to learn....

"Someone" must either be mistaken, or I've been doing it all wrong since 1969....

Hmmmmm.....

+1 Sure I could probably do it, but never had any motovation for it.

I am just the same, a pop here and there and thumbin' the E a tad now and then.

Don't slap less than 50%? Wouldn't that mean you slap the majority of the time?

Well, I like to slap, but usually don't in a band setting. In band setting, I slap about 2-3% of the time.

Other than"Happy Anniversary" and "Peg" none of our songs really call for slap style. It is something I practice at, but don't use much at all.

I try to slap when i'm practicing by myself but it would sound pretty ridiculous in most of the bands i've played in.That being said I think a Stingray is good for slap, pick, and fingerstyle.........One of the most versatile basses there is IMO

There's a Million Guys out there that have Mastered that Style and do it so well, I'm not one. I have Played a 4 String all my life and a Non Slapper. I've had a very long 22 year Career and stay more busy then I'd like to be.
Play the Grove and Have Great Time and the Band will love ya., and your phone will never stop ringing.

I'm the opposite of this guy ....... [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9g0u1-eFTqo"]YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.[/nomedia]

Funny thing though, the bass I'm playing on the EBMM Forum CD is the same as his (trans red SR4 with maple board) and they sound worlds apart.

Stingrays are great for slapping, sure. But they're also great with fingerstyle playing and with a pick. Hell, they're even great with flats.;)
The only thing they're not good at is when you're playing with your teeth.
In fact, they really suck. They suck big time in that department. An Ibanez is much better when playing with your teeth....
