hola all, noob here and noob player, welp, I picked up my first guitar when I was like 13 second when I was 20, they both were VERY RARE and meant a lot to me, the second one stolen in 87 was a Lyle Superstrat made in Oregon, 1 of 5..

it had the built in electronics like phase, fuzz and one other you would never used as it really are up batts, the was the popular setting even tho all 3 could be used together. VERY RARE, haven't seen one since

yea bad story on that one when I was like 17 I followed another kid into a gas station at night and tried getting the change out of the pop machine, this was around 77?

anywho I got 20 days in work release as I had 2 jobs, I now stoopid shirt right, maybe it was best since then I took a vow to NEVER commit another crime, JAIL sucks for me, anyways Io would get 24 hr passes and walked by a GC on 1st ave near Pioneer Square and there it was, staring me down like a showdown at the OK, ready to pull the trigger on me, but I shot first, put it on layaway right on the spot, said they just put it on display 10 minutes ago, it was a $360 sum odd guitar back in the late 70's dunno what that is in todays money but it was a fine guitar indeed, too fine, someone stole it when it was at my brothers apartment in lynnwood,

everyone loved it and there are few tracks floating around the Seattle area with that guitar, I knew all the musicians and would take the guitar around to the studios see if I could pick up some tips but mostly everyone just wanted to use it..

the first guitar I really don't like talking about much, yet another relative "doesn't know what happened to it" sucks because calling it rare doesn't quite describe it fact is I'll post a pic of it see if someone can match it up with another, in that color scheme,

anywho bought that one summer I was staying at my aunts in everett, my cuz my age and i worked on the fishing boats down at the wharf unloading fish and occasionally heading out to port Susan for a say of bottom fishing, purse seiners, the voyager 100' the Wisconsin 120' deck hands, typical northwest job for kids like us..

anywho one day after work a pocket full of $2:25 and hour for the week we were headed over to Teris and friend to go cruise colby, (walking too young for a license then) we picked up our spleef for the night and his brother heard we were holding and him and his girl wanted a try so it was no go or share..

we head down to the basement and there's some T-rex playing on get this, a pink Barbie turntable and some rigged up speakers,, anywho after about 10 minutes terri's brother catches me staring at his guitar over in the corner says "do you play I say nah but I wanna learn, you play?"

he says "nah never took the time", it was my uncles or some family members through estate or whatever, he says you can play it so I pick it up start strumming it I was like COOL, he says "wanna buy it" I'm thinking absolutely but no way do I have the money for this thing but I say, how much? he says $20, I said OK, whipped out the $20, I was rich cuz I brought $35 with me, that was like $350 back then..

anyway I take it back to my cuzins house drop it off and we go out, over time I figured out how to tune it and a couple chords, don't spend a lot of time with it as it was harder bacl then to learn..

anyways as the summer is winding down my Aunt meets a deck hand working for the Army Corps of engineering and before either of us kids even meet him they are packing up and moving to Ballard so I'm back to Machias to get ready for school, in the mean time my cousin was like hey man I am going to be so bored not knowing anyone can I borrow the guitar for a while, couple months till we are settled I was like yea sure OK

BIG MISTAKE

never saw it again, I moved to Ballard myself some 2 years later or so and he didn't know what happened to it... nice eh?

so thats why when I got in that trouble I bought another on layaway, again he would play it along with everyone else, so after the second guitar I just gave up saw it as a sign God just didn't want me to play, too bad too as I learned so fast and easy and remembered everything, i still remember stuff guys showed me back then 35 years later or so..

anyways I was retired recently due to a bad injury so I am picking it up again trying to learn again figgerd we don't talk and the one brother and the other is a long way away too so? I WILL keep an eye on them this time...

I picked up a guitar that I thought I couldn't let go, its a Sterling AX20 Rock Star energy drink edition, the one with the skull and roses graphics.

wondering if any of the premier model hardware bolts up like the bridge and or neck stuff that will dial it in, I actually like the tuners they're decent pearloids so they stay, it stays in tune and they crank nicely, its the hard tail model.

any help on getting it up to speed far as hot wiring setups, switches and pots whatever, I mean it sounds pretty good right now for sure but I know it can sound better, its an odd shaped neck tho kinda roundish and fat but playable..

I like it and for less than a hunskie how could I not buy it just one scratch under the neck pup?

anywho nice meetin ya'll and holla if you have any tips for the Axis20 by Sterling hard tail, rose fret board.

Thanks and here is a pic of my first guitar, my cousin is on the right playing it, thats his little bro playing the bass.... I know, already know, I didn't know then and forgot about it but after looking it up yea, what a mistake it was loaning that one out....

my first guitar at age 13, not me playing it on the right, cuz is..

Wow! Quite the narrative! I think the sterlings are great, i have an ax40 and its stock except i put in real dimarzio axis pups, and refinished the neck with the oil and wax, other than that i would leave it alone, you should try to score a normal one, those logo ones are kinda dufy, but its a good guitar, might be a candidate for a cool spray paint job!

Welcome to the Forum Daan!
The SBMM AX20 Rock Star Edition is what you have there. Nice guitar.
None of the Ernie Ball Music Man (EBMM) hardware will interchange with our Sterling By Music Man (SBMM) instruments.
I'm not much help as far as modifications, since we only deal with the instruments in "from the factory" specifications, but there are many members on here who have done terrific modifications to their SBMM guitars. Best bet, search the forums for "AX20", "AX30" and "AX40" or "SBMM Modifications" and you should find a wealth of information to set you on your way.

Again, welcome to the forum. Quite a great group of people on here with a wealth of knowledge.

Huh? I don't see why not. All the Sub 1 hardware interchanges, and I believe that SBMM should too.

Huh? I don't see why not. All the Sub 1 hardware interchanges, and I believe that SBMM should too.

They are engineered to prevent unscrupulous individuals from creating a fake, that could possibly dupe someone into believing that they are buying a real-deal EBMM.

That, coupled with not making parts available except on a warranty exchange basis, really helps to circumvent forgery problems. Not to say it can't happen, but it makes it more difficult to create one.

USA EBMM SUB's are just that, USA made EBMM instruments. They are not Indonesian made SBMM's.
