I was shocked to see a 25th guitar in the Pittsburgh (Robinson Township) Guitar Center today. The guy said it just came in, and that I was the first to play it. It has a nice flame top if any of you are looking.
I plugged it into some sort of Fender 2x12 amp and played around for a few minutes to try the various pickup configs. Some of the differences are very subtle (bear in mind I only played clean channel). The main thing I noticed was the difference in the series/parallel settings. Great fat tones can be had with the series setting, and when you switch to parallel it sorta 'thins' the sound. Somehow, the tone gets a little more chimey when individual notes are played in the parallel settings. Really neat tonal differences which I'd love to spend more time exploring. The guitar had really great sustain and was *much* lighter than I was expecting! The setup felt good and the neck was nice.. chunkier than the JP profile that I'm used to but still very comfortable to play. The finish was immaculate.. the binding was very nice and the contour felt great.
I would have tried the gain channel on the amp but some n00b started wanking at high volume two seats over and I could no longer hear myself. Had the wife and kids in tow, too so I couldn't really spend the time I would have liked.
The guitar was sitting in GC's little private room along with some expensive Gibby's and some sort of Jem, and let me tell you it just stood out visually. The other high-end guitars in the room looked like ass beside this baby.
