the only thing thats annoying me about mine now, is the fact it rests right under my ring finger on my picking hand, when picking. And I keep noticing it! The look of it, i'm over now. Any ideas what I can do other than get used to it?

I remember my first ding. Sucks. But, you have to over come it and press on. Of course, if you snap a neck like my one Pet, then you get to cry.....hehehehehhe:cool:

Clear nail polish MIGHT smooth it out enough to the point of being unnoticable.

I mean, i'm used to the idea of having the ding there visually now. It would be super cool if I could stop feeling it however..

Clear Nail Polish?

Clear gloss lacquer?

How would I go about getting it perfectly level?

I would not use nail polish just in case there is a reaction between the chemicals and the previous paint suddenly falls off or wrinkles. I've had this happen when touching up scratches on cars before - it is NOT a pretty sight.

Leave it be....

I wouldn't mess with it at all. An accidental ding is one thing, but even the slightest risk of messing it up by trying to fix it (and the compounded and long-lasting sh**ty feeling you will then have about it) is not worth it IMHO.

"Accept and come to terms with the ding". :(

Oh yeah.... My 7 string took a nice digger while I was on the phone with DaveB while at the y2d party on the 18th of last month. It got a couple white scrapes from the wall it fell into, I haven't even tried to remove them by buffing, it could just make the problem worse.

I had just received the guitar 3 days before, after waiting 10 months for it to return - yeah, I was upset to say the least.

For those of you who may be wondering... I still haven't pulled the neck off the 7, but that's ONLY because it's a neck-thru. If I could do it, I would have done it immediately, just like the rest:
Axis Sport - before I even plugged it in.
JP - just wanted to look, 4 hours after it arrived
y2d - yep, wanted to shim to my taste, about 5 hours after it was delivered
Kramer - yep, needed a setup in a bad way when I first got it, as soon as I got it home

I think I have a problem.

I usually feel a little easier once a guitar has a ding or two in it. I'm always too careful with one that is 100% mint. Once they're a little dinged, or scratched I feel more comfortable with it and I play it more freely.

I have to say, this HAS been the case, with my JP. I seem to be playing it a little freely..

That sucks man. That kind of thing drives me crazy too. But you know what? I'd trade dings in my axes for more talent any day of the week. So play on.

Count me in as another guy who doesn't mind a few dings here and there. Dings and dents are like memories for shows that may have been forgotten otherwise.

I'd definitely grieve immensely about a ding in my EBMM JP. Fortunately, since it was delivered in July 2005 I have not produced any. But I feel with you. Even a pic of a "damaged" EBMM JP hurts, which reminds me of the user-pic of a JP with a broken neck... that one made me shiver.

OMG: Am I nuts? ;)

I had a white sparkle for 5 months and managed not to ding it once. And now I have this for a month and ding it!!

Oh my god!!! What have you DONE?!?!? Now it's totally worthless... firewood if you will. What in tarnation did you think you were DOING even PLAYING it?!?

Sheesh kids these days... playing MUSIC... on GUITARS for god sakes!!!

:D

Seriously... if you hadn't highlighted it I MIGHT have noticed it. If you're going to play your guitar, you may get scratches and dings in it occasionally. Just like if you drive a car, you probably will get a scratch or a dent or two in it over the years.

It's normal wear and tear and the only way to avoid that is to leave it in it's case and not play it... or play it in a hypoallergenically controlled, hermetically sealed room with latex gloves, no pick, and a velvet jumpsuit. You get the idea.

I'd leave it alone. Mine has three small dings in the back where the finish is actually cracked... I sealed it off with clear nail polish just to keep the paint cracks from spreading but man they look like meteor craters compared to that little dimple.

Take a deep breath and a drink of water and try to look at the glass as half full. ;) It still works... right?
