Pretty sure Mesa branded tubes are made by shuguang, sovtek and JJ, depending on which tube.

JJ 6V6's in a Deluxe Reverb sound fantastic. According to my ears and style of playing. JJ 6L6's would probably sound good in your Hot Rod D too. They are very rugged and can handle mucho plate volts and thus probably some higher current levels. Fender amps tend to be biased on the real hot side, so if you're running it hot, JJ's can be a plus. I also like the ElectroHarmonix 6V6's I've been using in my Princeton R. They sound great to me. Not harsh at all. The only amp I have that uses a 6L6 is a modified Champ I built. So the other guys would know better about them. I can tell you this....I haven't read much bad about JJ 6L6's.

Hendog, I don't see where you say which amp you are retubing? Also which set of JJ's? (if it's the V3)

I dislike these threads in that everyones ears and likes and needs are different, so opinions are all that can be offered up and there are a zillion different opinions on tubes/amps. That could be what makes these threads valuable though.... who knows.

Try some different brand tubes and see what suits you personally, or suits your playing style. I've found that Shuguangs are hit and miss and would recommend that if you are considereing buying Chinese then buy them pre-tested and matched. You shouldn't have any problem with Bob and Eurotubes. I always list the following site too, which I've found to be very good in product and service, and their shipping is low cost and FAST. They've got 6L6GC's used.
Welcome to TubeDepot.com!

One mans ceiling is another mans floor............. and with power tubes in guitar amps it ain't much different.

Tung Sol's are fantastic! Not as sharp or shrill as JJ's. Try logging on to "The Tube Store" web page and do some reading. NOS tubes can be extremely pricey and you never really know what you are getting. Remember, a tube is basically a light bulb; some will last longer than others, some will sound better than others. Choose wisely!

New Sensor out of Russia has just purchased the rights to the Mullard name, however, my understanding is they sound no different than the standard Sovtek tubes that they are putting out! Sounds like they are putting the name on their own tubes. The same type of thing is going on with Groove Tubes also! I've got reissue Tung Sol 6V6's in my Deluxe Reverb and I absolutely love their Vibe. They're economically priced as well. Try logging on to "The Tube Store" web page and check out their stock. Good Luck with your quest.
