if its 2 to 3 percent percent of value per year and its replacement value.....

I actually pay a little more than that (somehing like 6 percent), but the fact is, no matter what may happen, I'll be insured. Ho hidden condition about professional or personal use, my gear is insured everywhere, anytime. I have insured for up to 6,000 € of gear, which is a bit more than what I actually take out for gigging, but this avoids having to change the policy each time I get a new pedal or accessory etc.

Even at 6 percent I keep on believing it's a useful surcharge.

Koogs, man what a bummer - I just caught this thread, sorry I've been out a couple of days. Man I sure hope things turn around!

BP, you are a prince, and a very smart one at that. Other CEO's may get the math, you get what really counts!!:)

sorry about the loss...i had my equipment insured for tha past 3 year, thank god nothing has happened to it but I did it because a former guitarist I knew had his car stolen out of his drive way 2 minutes after he parked it with 3 of his favorite guitars and an amp. After that, I never left my guitars or basses at the rehearsal space even if it was a pain to load my car every night with at least 2 basses. It's not easy to replace something with sentimental value...

Drat, I'm late to this thread..

Koogs, sorry for your situation. I know you're in good hands with Ballstate, but if you need any other gear, I'm down for kicking in some scratch. Rock on, bro!

Okay, let's see if we can do some good here for the knucklehead community:

- Who should we contact to obtain insurance on our gear? (Auto insurance company? Home insurance?) Those of us with no experience don't know where to start.

- Should we try to work out some sort of rider on an existing policy (auto? home?) or buy a separate policy?

- Any recommendations on good providers with experience insuring musicians?

- Any useful experience-based hints and tips?

All bad experiences can be tapped to provide at least a little positive impact, no?

Share your best info......

Wow Koogs, so so sorry to hear about your loss. Lots of fires lately, my friend just lost two of her cats last friday in a fire in her garage and kitchen. Hopefully your insurance will cover your loss.

...And you wonder why BP is the Chick Magnet....Heart of Gold!

it is never a bad idea to have a log book with all the serial numbers and complete discriptions of all your gear...photos of the gear and photos of the serial numbers are a definit

since my buddy did that and all the gear was stolen out of his car when his car was stolen...auto insurance covered the musical gear value due to the fact the gear was in his stolen car...he came out with a new car and almost identical guitars to the ones he lost. To bad the insurance couldn't return his only tapes of his hair band from college...

if you keep your gear at your home and it never leaves the house (good for collectors) put the value under your home owners insurance...at least that is what my dad and my boss do with their near priceless instruments...i don't know if they started a new policy or not though

I'm way late to this, Koogs, but I'm sorry to hear about your loss, and I hope that everything turns out sunny side up in the end...

And I'm still consistently amazed by the generosity displayed by EB-no one takes care of their customers better.

The thank god I'm insured,

Chris

Koogie, just returned in town and read your post. I am very sorry you are going through this. I think it would be any knucklehead's nightmare to be going through what you are. My thoughts are with you. I hope you can get this resolved soon and put behind you.

Sorry all....I still don't have Internet at my new house....

We are still waiting on the insurance company and what not.

However, I am in good hands....Ballstate.

I am being taken care of as well as being able to use gear that some of the local fellas are letting us use.

What do I need? Just positive vibes sent my way.....that will make my day go by real nice!

Wow. The generosity and brotherhood of this place is amazing!

Koogie, brother.. My prayers are with you, brother.. and with the people that did this to you.

I know how it feels to lose everything and not be insured(or be told that you're insured and aren't. :( ) Hurricane Katrina ate everything musical that I had.

PM me if you need anything.
