The fact is that guitars are like magnets to kids and I cant blame any kid for wanting to grab it.

Y'know, I hope this is true around my house. There are guitars I won't want damaged, but I'm happy for anyone to mess around with a beater and just play.

I hope like mad that my daughter takes to any of the instruments I have lying around and it goes from there.

Everyone makes mistakes so in that sense I don't think your wife meant any harm.
However, the sheer amount of ignorance that was displayed with the "It didn't look anything special" would seriously have me worried to death. I wouldn't let kids play with things that are clearly not meant for them, regardless of how much(or little) I thought they were worth. That's just unrespectful. Good thing you were able to keep your cool and go for a walk, lol.

I let my daughter mess around with my Luke since she was 5. The look on her face is priceless when she hits the strings with a big distortion and awesome delay sound, its like pure gold watching her just mess around with it. She can learn to play later but thats just for fun.

Imagine my horror when she proudly should me her latest project that involved a Luke 1, a Petrucci plugged into the Bogner all while she and her friends danced wildly in front of my rig and studio. there are so many things wrong with what happened. First, the wife letting it happen at all. Second, the lack of respect shown by the children. Third, the lack of respect taught to the children by the parents.

Was having a get-together at the studio. A guy from a popular local band here was a bit tipsy on beer, and attemping to tune our Jem from DGCFAD to a standard DADGBE tuning..A rather tedious chore, considering it had been perfectly set up with a low action in that tuning. Not only was he attempting this with a beer in his hand, he was attempting to do it by adjusting the tuning pegs with the locking nut still clamped down. He was not invited back.
