I went to see NOFX play last night, and luckily for us, the support was superb and included Less Than Jake.

Roger Manganelli plays Sterlings. You can definitely tell as soon as you hear their recordings.

The bands that played before had the typical bass tone that can get lost in the mix...not a Musicman haha!

Then, Roger plays, and wow, the deep bass and pingy aggressive highs on the Sterling just cut through like a knife...in a pleasant way though.

I personally have a big passion for very fast modern punk rock like these guys, and the basslines are usually all over the place which is great fun. The basslines are usually a BIG part of the song. (See A Wilhelm Scream - Musicman Stingray).

Now I want a 4 banger single H Sterling. I've seen an old limited edition for a good price...tempted!

I love a Wilhelm scream ,that guys stingray tone is the best I've heard ,especially with finger.
I like Rogers sterling tone as well ,its truly a signature sound of less than Jake.

I'm thinking of starting a petition in California that would make it MANDATORY for every bassist to own a Sterling (fretted) 4H.

Preferably in Natural w/ tort pg.
There could be a provision that would exempt a player from this law, but ONLY if he/she had a Bongo-
fretted/fl; 4-5-or 6 string; wouldn't matter in that case.

But the fretted Sterling 4H- yeah, that would be the law.

FORGOT TO ADD:
Addendum to (Proposed) California Bassist Mandatory (Ownership of) MM Fretted-4 H Sterling Law:
Maple 'Board, or a $5,000 fine (per year); 5-string or HH versions; $4000 penalty (per year). P/G, other than tort: $3K per year additional fine.
It'll fly; we elected Schwarznegger here, remember?

The one I have seen is a NOS 2008 Ltd Sequoia Gold single H Sterling 4 with the Ltd case. I haven't actually seen it in the flesh but the price is cheaper than a new single H normal colour non-matching headstock Sterling 4. Not sure the Sequoia gold is my kinda colour...im thinking of perhaps a Sky Blue/Maple/White Sterling H or HS 4.

Does anyone have a bass from the 2008 run that could shed some info on what it looks like in the flesh?

Don't think and buy it. I let a fiver go some years ago and I could bite my a$$ every day for doing so. I want a Bongo in Seqouia gold.

Quick update!

The store had the bass shipped over so I could try it out. Firstly, the colour was STUNNING. Low weight, beautiful Sterling snarl, and the gold hardware actually suited the bass very well.

The case is also a thing of beauty.

I now want a Sterling 4 H or HS because of that stunning FAST neck. Either that or a Big Al 4 to get the same neck profile.

Unfortunately, there may have been shipping damage (we think) as the coil added to the H to allow for silent single coil mode was rattling inside the bass. This took a while to work out so I had to leave the guys to it so I could get back to work. When the coil moved it made the amp crackle a little.

Such a shame as I was almost ready to pounce.

When I left the store guys emailed to say that it was indeed the additional coil that had come loose, and it would have to be returned anyway no matter what I wanted to do, to make it as good as new (eg change the pickup).

It has kept my interest in the Sterling 4 neck though...so Ill probably take the plunge and get one ordered haha!

Nice dude, I love mine. The HS is a beast. I'd do that over just a H. HH vs HS is a big difference as well. I would love a HS one day
