Now it happened to me.....

Since we were talking about this earlier, I feel like I have been hoisted by my own petard.

I found a very lovely used blue Axis SuperSport in GC's labor day sale today. I know I can't mention pricing but let's just say this was less than half of the usual retail price and was in 100% mint condition. I handed it to the salesguy I usually work with, said I would buy it, and he put it behind the counter while I tested out a Luke in the booth. As I emerge from the booth and make my way back to the counter I see a guy leaving with a musicman case.... Turns out that the Axis was sold by another employee.

It was a shame, but an honest mistake. It just gets crazy in there on these sales days. I know my salesguy felt bad but there was nothing they could do. The salesguy who actually sold it also apologized. I also learnt my lesson. If you want something then pay for it immediately! I told them that sometimes things aren't meant to be for a reason and it is like girlfriends, you are devastated when you break up but somehow someone better always comes along

The good news is that this GC had more EBMM guitars in stock than I had ever seen before including two BFRs, a couple of JP6s and a several Lukes. The Lukes were priced really well and I was tempted but I wasn't really in the right mood after I lost the Axis. They had a stunning flame Luke BFR.

No doubt. Hold that mother w/ a death grip!! I can't wait till next year when the desert gets a GC then I can take advantage of these big sales. Right now they aren't worth the travel to me.

The best way to secure something in any guitar store (especially if your actually in it / not purchasing over the phone)...is to have the receipt of purchase in your hand.

The test drive on the Luke could have waited until you secured the purchase of the A.S.S.

i checked out the SF GC today. i didnt see any BFRs... i guess those sold em all. but i was stoked to play one if i could have.

they did have a bunch of ASS and Lukes. it was nice to see em in the store

Ok, to make you feel a little better I tell you my story from way back in 1984.
I entered a little guitar shop in munich, I was 15 at that time. There was a Les Paul in sunburst, little beaten up, and I asked to try it. Plugged into an brown acoustic amp and fell in love. The neck pickup I remember as it was yesterday (sounded everything you could ask for). The price tag said 2600.-Deutschmarks which has been a lot of money back then and for me twice as much. I asked the guy what that guitar is. He said: It´s a 1960 G*****Les Paul but the neck was replaced by Gibson in 1965.
I told him I will come tomorrow and buy it and asked him not to sell it. Back then I did not know a thing about guitars so chose only by ear, well ok I knew G*****.
Took the train to all grandmas I had begged for money and everything and the next day I had the money in my pocket and entered the store - she was gone....
The sales guy didn´t believe an 15year old boy to get the money....

I was looking for the neck pickup sound a long time, nothing came close.
But 99% of it are nailed with my EVH neck pickup of my EBMM. Well and the 1% left I guess my mind fools me

Wow that's nice ! The last time I was there (on Van Ness) they only had an ASS, no Lukes... I need to go pay them a visit

OT - but .... ... just to add to the story.
It was 1977 and we were playing a one week stint in Munich in the PN Club Schwabing (excuse spelling?). We arrived in a 48 seater tour bus and believe me, it was rare in those days for a semi pro band to have a bus.
We got to the PN club and it was shut so we pulled the buss up around the corner and parked up outside a shop front which turned out to be a guitar shop FULL of old Gibsons/Fenders but at a heavy price too!
We were all strapped for cash and couldn't afford anything. I already had my Les Paul, but man I wish I could have bought something that day. I have always wondered what happened to that shop.
Japan were the band who played the week after us and arrived a couple of days early. They had their heads up their 4r5es but their road crew were fantastic as were Tangerine Dream's crew who came to watch us one night- Man they were nice daze!!!

Just thought I would throw this out there for everybody so that no one has this happen to them at GC again. If you want to buy something, but aren´t going finish the transaction immediately, tell your salesman to put it on a sales ticket and suspend it. As you have seen, behind the counter means nothing. Once the item is on a sales ticket in the computer system (affectionately known as the green screen) then there is no excuse for another salesman selling it - the sales ticket will have your name on it, the salesman´s employee number and your salesman can even type a message on the sales ticket explaining that the guitar is spoken for. If someone tries to sell the item while it is on a suspended sales ticket, the computer will not allow it and the salesman will have to find the ticket and at least talk to the salesman (yours) to confirm whether the guitar is available for sale or not.
