New Strings and Locks Day!

The decision is coming - either stay with normal Slinkys 'till I die, or do I change to the coated Slinkys or the Cobalts? Time to do some testing! I've tried the Coated Slinkys and loved them so much I'm gonna try 'em again. The Cobalts go on this afternoon.

And I'm happy to finally ditch my old strap locks and put the Super Locks on. Really nicely made, very solid. The heavy duty ziplock bag is overkill but very cool and will be handy for keeping picks and stuff in.

BTW, I ordered from the EB online store (which in France is run by the EB distributor, High Tech Distribution). They were cheaper than than any Paris store. They were also cheaper than anyone online too, even cheaper than Thomann. And they delivered in two days! Bravo!

BTW, EB Super Locks are excellent. Definitely an improvement on the old Schallers.

Yep. And he's got François's legs, and he knows how to use them.

Cobalt strings - NICE! At first you put them on and the wound strings just don't seem that special. And then you stop trying to hear things and just start to play and listen to the overall "mix" it's then that it hits you - the extra bottom end and harmonics are AMAZING! I'm grinning like a fool here. Billy Gibbons would love these strings.

See, I didn't get on with the Cobalts, however, I assume that this new L3 of mine came with the Coated Slinkys - now they are cool strings..

Yep, I know exactly what you're saying. The windings are bigger and I can feel it too. Slightly less tension than normal slinkys which helps to offset the rougher feel, at least to my fingers but we'll see how I feel about later.

Tone wise, it reminds me a little of the first time you go from 80/20 bronze to Phosphor Bronze on an acoustic. The wound strings are a little more piano like, but more solid in the bottom end without being bassy. For clean chordal work, they are fantastic. I can see jazz players digging these. And I said before, with distortion they make me grin!

Go Cobalt or Go Home I prefer nickel over coated and well extra slinkys rule too! Billy will hunt you down

great test Kev. I'm currently under the cobalt testing, we didn't "click" so far but may get time. I think I will stick to my lovely RPS but at least I will give the Cobalt another try on my next strings replacement

You said it! Not me!

MY personal list of Super locks advantages - 1) They are quiet. None of that damn 'clanky' noise you get with Schallers. 2) Easier to engage and disengage. 3) With Schallers you have to periodically tighten the top nut. If you don't and it works loose, the nut will fly off and your guitar will hit the floor. With Super Locks, if that nut works loose, being on the inside of the strap the whole system stays intact and the nut can't get lost. No guitar on floor. No searching for nut on hands and knees on a dark stage. 4) Without the locking system on your strap, Super Locks leave you better strap buttons than the Schallers leave you with. 5) The round knob on the Schallers will wear a hole in the bottom of a gig bag. Super Locks wide flat button avoid that problem.

I have a small gig this weekend and a rehearsal on Tuesday. I'll have a good idea of how I feel about the Cobalts then. They are lovely but I can't yet tell you if I want to marry them!

Then again, knowing me, It'll probably come down to which packaging I like the best. Coated Slinkys would win that. So very, very handsome!

He could, in fact slice some great cheese with 7's. Hopefully, that cheese would be consumed with a really nice Napa Cabernet, not that French stuff that you guys have over there. LOL !!!!!!!!!Or a great Irish brew; Guinness? My ancestors are from a town called Tullamore. Are you familiar?

Tullamore! Not sure I've ever been. I can find it on a map with no problem, how's that? Tullamore Dew whiskey is well known (though not brewed in Tullamore for over 50 years).
