Help! Nut Alignment Problem

I bought one Stingray, which got some modification. But. also got one problem on string aligns. It's on little right side of all 5.

As shown on this photo, all the strings are laid little right.
Ijust bought one black nut and replace, but came same result. So temporarily took previous again.

This is 92 Stingray 5.
Besides re-making new nut, any solution ?
Any ways to get the Nut ?

It sounds like you don't know how to make this right. So I'd suggest you take it to a repairman.

What you start with, is a blank nut, and cut your own slots from there. Any real guitar shop should have a selection of nuts in stock.

Nut looks fine, and I too want to see the bridge. It's either something wrong with the bridge or the neck has gotten whacked out of alignment.

it looks like it is a replacement nut and should be taken to a qualified luthier....it is not tough surgery

I had a similar problem on a sub 5. I called customer service and they sent me an uncut nut right out. I then took it to the wrong luthier and he screwed it up worse. His name is Tenorio. If you are in Denver, avoid him at all cost. While removing the old nut, he splintered out wood and then filed the new nut with it installed and ended up filing grooves in the peghead. Complete idiot and he refused to pay for the mistake. So be careful in who you take it to. You might be better off sending the bass to customer service and having it done right!

I don't know if it's the way the photo is cropped, but it looks like it was taken from a left-of-center angle so it's hard to tell exactly how bad the problem is. The other thing is that the A string's off-centeredness seems to be even up and down the neck, which again makes me wonder about the angle of the shot. It seems like if the problem was with the nut, it would be worse by the nut and get progressively better toward the bridge.

Looking at the nut by itself, it looks OK. Then it gets weird as you go up the neck. The important spec here is how the strings are spaced at the nut. There should be 3/8" (.375) space between center to center of the strings. It would be good if we could see some straight-overhead pics. As mynan said, it appears that the photo was taken from a slight angle. It's hard to tell from a picture, of course, but the nut could be original. And there is not a hard and fast rule that the fret marker dots are precisely in the center of the A string all the way up the neck. In any event, doohoud, if you want a nut that we would have used at that time, you can contact me at Customer Service at [email protected] - but I am not entirely convinced that that is the problem, or at least the only problem.

Hey I just when and check my bass and my it just like daahoud bass. My is a 2005 stingray, maybe that the way it was made. with offset markers.

With four strings the alignment with the dots is never an issue.

And here I was thinking this thread was about some medical problem...

* Rick Auricchio : Well, dot's maybe outta issue. But, just worried that the strings are not in property positioin to make proper tone in lovely Stingray. Sometimes one small thing enlarges bigger one in Amp sound. Might happen in 4 strings

* 5Stringer : Well, nut looks ok ? You can compare the Left space of 4th and Right side space of 1st. Is it same ? Yep, it might be wrongly setup, i just figured out. how the strings are spaced at the nut MUST affect how to play, but not How to Sound. I always expect that the string go through at exact center of Pickup pole piece.

daahound, can you post a photo of the bridge and pickup area? The strings should align with the polepieces.

I'm wondering if someone might have flipped the bridge saddles. You'll note that the string slot is not centered in the saddle body. Flipping a saddle upside-down would move the string.

Flipping a saddle would require someone to move the adjustment screws too, but everything is possible if it was completely disassembled.

Okay, let me sum this up:

a. impossible to tell if the photograph in angled in such a way as to make the strings appear off

b. cannot see the bridge

c. cannot tell if G string is too close/just right due to photograph angle

d. Customer Service has come to the rescue

So let's call it a day on the Scientific Wild-Ass Guessing.
