Nut width and neck profiles...Morse vs. EVH

I wanted to ask those of you who have played both of these to maybe give me an idea of the differences between the necks on these 2 guitars. I have never had the opprotunity to try a Morse...nobody around here has them in stock!

Is the Morse wider at the nut? I thought it might be.

I have been himmin n' hawwin' about getting a Morse, but i'm not sure if i will like the neck profile?

what about the differences in the sound/pickups variations betwwen the Y2D and the Morse standard? can you get the same sounds out of the Y2D as the standard?

Brent, I own both an EVH and an original Morse with Floyd. If anything the EVH appears to be wider, but only by a fly whisker. I measured them both at the nut and there was .1mm of a difference. I love the Morse and play it exclusively live now. A must own.

I don't have an EVH but do have an Axis. From the MM site:

Axis: 1-5/8" at nut, 2-3/16" at last fret, 10" radius
Morse: 1-5/8" at nut, 2-1/4" at last fret, 12" radius

I like the feel of the Morse neck better myself. It feels a tad bigger than the Axis neck, though. Probably because it's got a bigger raduis. (It's my favourite MM neck, but that's such a personal preference.)

As for the sounds, with the Y2D you're missing the strat pickup. It's handy, but not nearly as handy as the tele pickup near the bridge HB. With the exception of that you can get the same sounds out of both. It goes without saying that both are great guitars.

Thanks for the nut difference check! I guess the only thing i'm wondering now is if the neck on the Morse is D shaped like the EVH or is it flatter?

I love the looks of the Y2Ds...but i'm also liking the 4 P/U config. on the Standard too!!! (more possabilities?)

Why was the P/Us changed on the Y2D? just a different way to get the same sound?

so the 12" radius means it is a little "fatter"....geometry was not my thing!

The radius is in reference to the fretboard on yes it's flatter, I'm a rosewood guy because of the Morse. Used to be a die hard maple guy. The Morse is a must own guitar. The single coil is the secret weapon too.

The EVH is a little narrower at the nut than the axis, right? Maybe that's the difference.

Neck profile is *now* the same on both models. They re-did the profile to Steve's #1. If you get an older Morse it's a tad thicker. (Unless you get Tommy to carve it up like I did )

The 12" means the fretboard is more flat than a 10". (E.g. it's a slice of a circle that would have a radius of 12".) The Axis is a little rounder. As for the back of the neck, it feels a little more symmetrical than the Axis.

The old one rocks man! You won't be dissapointed. Something very cool about having all of those pickups and switches!

the EVH feels a bit thinner, due to the asymetric backshape.
the morse is "normal" rounded and the region where the neck goes over to the fretboard feels a bit edgier as on the EVH.

but the overall feeling is nearly the same.
as i picked up the Y2D for the first time, the feeling was very familiar to me.
i love both guitars.

i don´t know how the Y2D compares to the regular morse, sorry.

I'm thinking about letting loose of 1 EVH and getting a Morse....

Just dont know if i should go for the Y2D? I know i would want a floyd! Can you get a Standard Morse in a Quilt top?

As soon as he played the first chords on the Y2D, I noticed it sounded slightly brighter, with more "bite". Whereas the blueburst sounded warmer, mellower. I can only guess that either the bridge pickup or the maple top on the Y2D is what contributes to the brighter sound.

I've noticed that too, it would be to do with the difference in wood used I'd imagine
